Cold Fury Hockey Series
New Adult Contemporary
Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.
As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

Amber’s Review – 5 Stars
Why are hockey players so yummy? Really why are they? Why do they make me want to love a sport that I’ve never had interest in before? Yeah well maybe it has a lot to do with the writers that create them and Sawyer Bennett is most excellent at it in my opinion!! I was so excited to get the chance to read an arc of ALEX and was so so happy that it was even better than what the synopsis alluded. Alexander Crossman is yummy with a capital Y! I admit that initially I was not a big fan because he is admittedly a cold-hearted ass, but this opinion quickly evolved. Alex changes after meeting Sutton Price, the social worker he is mandated by his team to work with to improve his PR in the community. Sutton is everything Alex isn’t, and he really isn’t sure of anything about her other than he is wildly attracted to her. Sutton also feels an attraction to Alex but he is such a jerk that all she wants is get his cooperation to get her project going. Along the way though they are both changed as they develop into friends and so much more, but can a guy who’s not allowed himself to connect with anyone or feel anything in so long sustain a real relationship?
I have to say that I loved Sutton from the start! She is smart, compassionate and doesn’t pull any punches about what she expects from Alex or anyone else. Sutton is there for those around her and is so driven that when Alex begins to try to connect with her, to show her the kindness that she gives those around her that you begin to see how they are both changing. Alex is learning to feel and enjoy his life, a life that he has been moving through with disdain for so long that it’s at times scary for him, but at the same time he’s beginning to feel happy for the first time in more time than he can recall. For Sutton finding love with Alex is as surprising as it is steamy-hot. Seriously this pair has crazy good chemistry and their connection is hawt! In addition to how I grew to love Alex, I loved the supporting players in the story just as much!! From Sutton’s little brother to Garrett Samuelson, both who connect with Alex in special ways, to Rosie the matchmaking receptionist that was always giving Alex ways to endear himself to Sutton.
Alex was so much more than just a hockey romance. It’s about learning to love yes, but it’s also about maintaining hope when the world is hopeless. It’s about learning to trust that despite enduring abuse, you can change your story to find happiness. It’s about learning to find joy in things that you long thought you could never feel joyful about. It’s about connecting and trusting another person so much that even when they scare you with how much you feel, that you can’t not be with them. Yep Sawyer has created another fabulous series with the Cold Fury books and I can’t wait to see what’s up next!
