Beautiful…moving…heartbreaking, these were my thoughts when I finished The Empty Jar by M. Leighton. I am a huge fan of all of her books so it is a given that I will read anything she writes, and I knew going in this book would be a little different but what I did not expect was for this book to be so personal. My heart ached and my eyes were puffy from the ugly cry but it wasn’t sadness I was left with at the end, it was love.

Lena and Nate’s story is not about the falling in love, the story of how, but it’s more the story of life, the journey and true love. Lena and Nate share that rare once-in-a-lifetime love and it’s beautiful and heartwarming, but there’s sacrifice and loss too and M. Leighton does an amazing job of showing all sides of that reality in The Empty Jar.

I don’t want to say a lot about their journey, it really just needs to be experienced. I will say that this story is real and raw and it will make you feel everything. I laughed and cried and hurt and yes I loved it all. The emotions of this story, the characters and the author are so honest and tangible. I applaud Michelle for writing this book, even though it’s not a traditional romance HEA, it’s more than that, it’s real.

The Empty Jar is not the easiest book to read, but it’s so worth it. Michelle has created something very special with this book, she has managed to truly capture true love, the good the bad and the stuff that makes you ugly cry. I was speechless when I finished the book, I didn’t know how to find the words to truly express what I felt for such a powerful story. I do know that The Empty Jar is beauty, love, it is tragedy and hope too. I truly hope you will give this amazing story a chance, just make sure to have some tissues.

“We love. We Laugh. We hope. And we keep filling our jar.”

This personal note is something the author asked that we share with you:

This book is not a romantic fairy tale. Yet, it’s the most romantic story I’ve ever told. It’s a journey of pain and loss, of hope and happiness. It’s both achingly tragic and exquisitely beautiful. It’s a love story. A true love story about real love. The kind that sees you through the night and holds you when you cry. The kind that won’t give up and never lets go. The kind we all dream about and few find. But it’s real. I promise you, it’s real. I’ve seen this kind of love, and I’ve seen this kind of heartbreak. I got to see it up close and personal, and quite honestly, I will never be the same. I hope it changes you as much as it changed me.

The Empty Jar

Three months touring Europe.

Romantic. Dazzling. Unforgettable.

The trip of a lifetime.

But some lifetimes are shorter…

We couldn’t have known it would work out this way. No one could. No one could’ve guessed that something so beautiful could be so tragic.

But it is tragic.

Yet so, so beautiful.

That’s what sacrifice is—beauty and tragedy.

It’s pain and suffering for something or someone you love.

And this is the ultimate sacrifice.

One stunning act of true love.

This is our story.

Our true love story.
