Soon to be divorced Julia South never expected to be caught up in solving a murder, until she discovered the body of her cafe’s most awkward customer. With a new smug Detective Inspector in town who underestimates her every move, Julia makes it her mission to discover the real murderer, before her village friends are dragged into the frame, and more bodies are discovered.

5 Stars

This was such a fun read, filled with baked goods, a who-done-it, and a hint of romance too! I love a good mystery and this book kept me guessing and was entertaining with this group of characters. Julia is as loveable as the amazing cakes she creates!

Having recently moved back to the small village she is from, Julia’s life is now all about running her café, making amazing cakes and treats and staring at the divorce papers she doesn’t want to sign. She loves her little village though, everyone knows each other plus she has her grandmother and sister. Then one day an attractive stranger moves into a cottage down the street, he’s a bit mysterious and sexy too. Their quiet lives change when Julia discovers a murder – things certainly aren’t what they seem and the sexy stranger, Barker Brown is actually a detective who moved out of the big city for a slower pace. Julia gets involved, conducting her own investigation and finds out there is so much more to her small town.

I loved this story, the way everything unfolds keep the mystery going strong and proved that even in a small town people can have their secrets. This story really kept me guessing, thinking I had it figured out one moment only to be surprised the next. This was a fantastic cozy mystery and wonderful story to get lost in. I loved the interactions between Julia and Barker, with little teases of attraction between them. I am definitely excited to see what happens next in this series!
