Katy Regnery has created a very special modern day fairy tale series and today I’m thrilled to share Don’t Speak. It’s the modern telling of The Little Mermaid and it’s touching and wonderful – a must read!
From New York Times bestseller Katy Regnery comes a new twist on a beloved fairytale. In this modern retelling of The Little Mermaid, a fisherman’s daughter from an Outer Banks island untouched by time, meets the son of the North Carolina governor at a fancy party she helps to cater.
Laire, who wants more from life than her little island can offer, is swept away by wealthy, sophisticated Erik, who is, in turn, entranced by her naiveté and charm. The two spend a whirlwind summer together that ends on the knife-point of heartbreak and forces them to go their separate ways.
Years later, when fate finds them together once again, they will discover the terrifying depth of the secrets they kept from each other, and learn that shattered hearts can only be healed by a love that willfully refuses to die.
All novels Katy Regnery’s ~a modern fairytale~ collection are written as fundraisers. 10% of the e-book sales for in March and April 2017 will be donated.
4 – 4.5 Swoony Stars
I absolutely love what Katy Regnery is doing with this fairy tale series, it’s just brilliant and Don’t Speak is a great addition. This is a wonderful second chance love story beautifully told. Erik and Laire are amazing characters and their journey together will touch your heart, make you cry and laugh too.
Erik and Laire come from completely different worlds, Erik is the son of the governor of North Carolina, and his parents have clear expectations for his future. Laire is a sheltered fisherman’s daughter living on an island off the coast. Her family has lived on that island for generations and the expectation is that Laire will marry a local boy and start having children and live her life on that island. But those aren’t her dreams, she wants to get out, see the world, go to school and become a designer. When Laire and Erik meet there is something special between them right from the start and they begin a secret romance, both falling madly in love.
Life is never that easy though and their story takes a turn for the tragic, there are misunderstandings and mistakes and major heart break. But, once these two finally find each other again, oh it was beautiful and gave me all the FEELS. Time has passed their lives are different now, but their love is still there, despite the pain. The truth comes out and these two can finally rebuild together.
This is a great journey and I absolutely loved the feeling of The Little Mermaid throughout the story, again just brilliant! Don’t Speak was a fun and emotional read that I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. I love this series and can’t wait to read the next fairy tale!
