Nursing student Xavier James is shocked to run into the first man to ever break his heart while at a gay club. His ex is sexier than ever, but Xavier is not going down that road again … only, when they end up working together at an urgent-care clinic, his willpower will be tested.

Trent Cavendish made a huge mistake at age 18 when he walked away from his first love. Twelve years later, Trent is rattled when his friend suddenly dies. He takes a hard look at his life, realizing how empty it has become. Determined to re-evaluate his priorities and make amends, he returns to his hometown to win Xavier’s forgiveness and maybe even his heart.

Times have changed. Instead of the sweet but tame boyfriend he left behind, he finds a smoking hot man dressed in bits of lace and silk. Trent’s good intentions turn to lust, and love isn’t far behind. But Xavier is wary. The villain of his memories is proving to be a decent guy, but has he really changed or is Xavier just a new goal to chase?

I have definitely enjoyed this series and was really looking forward to Xavier’s book and I wasn’t disappointed! I’m a big fan of second chance stories and this book hit all the marks for me when it came to that story line. I was totally rooting for these two and their much deserved HEA!

Xavier and Trent dated in high school and had plans to go to college together, but when Xavier made the choice to put his family before going off to college, Trent ends things and walks away. Over a decade later neither man has really moved and when reality hits Trent with a wake up call, he knows he needs to try to fix things with Xav.

I really felt for these guys, they had a wonderful love at a young age, but that same young age had them making quick decisions where both men ended up hurt and angry. When Trent returns to Ashe to try to make things Xavier really makes him earn it. Xavier doesn’t want to get hurt like that again and has to decide if he can let Trent back into his heart. I loved how these two come back together though, realizing that their love for each really never disappeared. These two have struggles to face though, it’s not all easy, even when they think they have a second chance. They have to learn to trust each other and work together, and it’s definitely tested.

I really enjoyed their journey, it was a great mix of sweet, loving, hot and challenging. These two definitely have HOT chemistry together and a connection that runs deep. I loved the appearances of Zane and Paul, that was a fun addition to the story. I do have to admit that I struggled a bit with Helen and her role in their story, for some reason it was hard for me to fully get on board with it, but in the end I was okay. I did love the way it all came together and seeing Xavier and Trent get their happiness and love was satisfying!

Excerpt

Xavier wore a pair of tight white shorts that practically glowed against his skin tone and an electric blue sleeveless top that showcased his muscles. He added just a touch of make-up, nothing too over-the-top, and his hair was unrestrained for once, spilling to his shoulders and brushing bared skin.

The expressions coming his way, a mix of confused and aroused, made Xavier grin.

His soft feminine touches emphasized his natural masculinity, and people weren’t always sure what to make of him.

He stopped at the bar to order a drink. In the mirror overhead, he watched a man approach. He was tall, lean and casually sexy in jeans and a T-shirt that hugged his thighs and chest in all the right ways. He had dark hair, which had always been Xavier’s type. He kind of looked like Xavier’s roommate at first glance, which was a bit weird, but Zane was a sexy fucker. No denying that.

This is promising. I might even get 8 hours’ sleep tonight unless he’s a total beast in the sack.

Xavier looked down as the man neared, not wanting to seem too eager. He felt the warmth of another body behind him and the press of a hand against his back. Slowly, the stranger’s hand slid up his spine to the nape of his neck, sending tingles through him.

This was one presumptuous fucker, but it was hot.

A breath whispered against his ear. “You are a goddamned treasure, you know that?”

Xavier couldn’t help it. He snorted a laugh. “You lay it on thick.”

The man gripped his hair, tugging Xavier’s head back. “I just go after what I want, and I don’t apologize for it.”

The words should have been sexy. But Xavier’s head tilted back, his gaze slid over, and he saw the face of the guy manhandling him.

“You sure don’t,” he said flatly.

Trent Cavendish’s expression froze. He looked stunned, an expression Xavier hadn’t seen in more than a decade. He hadn’t seen any expression on the man’s face since he left so many years ago.

His surprise faded quickly, replaced with lust as his eyes scanned Xavier’s body.

“Fuck, baby,” Trent whispered, his voice rough.

Fuck was right. Just his luck he’d reel in his ex-boyfriend from high school. The one who’d torn out his heart and stomped on it — and insulted his family and his principles while he was at it.

Dr. Paul Johnston can’t get a set of dark, somber eyes out of his head, and the timing couldn’t be worse.

The last thing he needs is to fall for a patient. Not now, when he’s been put on paid leave pending review of a formal complaint. One that most likely accuses him of sexual harrassment or impropriety of some kind. It’s possible he let his newfound freedom as a divorced, out-of-the-closet gay man go to his head, but he’s certain — mostly — he didn’t do anything wrong. Now, he’s struggling to handle the reality that his job is in danger and the only guy he wants should be off-limits.

Zane Kavanaugh is floundering, and there’s only one man who soothes the storm inside him.

Reeling from an assault that landed him in the hospital and the painful estrangement from his family since coming out, Zane is trying to get his feet under him and find his independence. He moves in with a roommate and searches for a job, all while recovering from a fractured arm and cracked ribs. None of that hurts as much as the emotional damage he’s suffered. When he connects with Dr. Paul Johnston outside of the ER, he’s drawn to the man’s calm, collected manner. It doesn’t hurt that Paul’s lack of experience with men is sexy as hell, and so are his over-the-top responses when Zane gets his lips on him.

There’s no right time to fall in love.

Paul is afraid to start a relationship, and Zane can only handle so much more rejection. Will these two find their perfect moment, or will they realize you can’t choose when and how you fall in love? If Paul can’t take a risk, he may have to choose: the career he loves or the first man to capture his heart.

Bedside Manner is Book 1 of the Hearts & Health series. This is a spin-off series from the book Heart Trouble and includes characters from that novel, but it can be read as a standalone.

I enjoyed this sweet read from DJ Jamison! Paul and Zane are great characters, a bit broken and in need of love but definitely likeable guys! I was glad that I had recently read Heart Trouble because we get a lot of Ben and Gage too and knowing their story helped me feel connected to Paul and Zane’s journey together.

Paul is a recently divorced and newly out doctor who lives for his job – he’s a great ER doctor even if he flirts a little bit. Zane is a college student who is recovering from a brutal beating from his step-father. These two shouldn’t connect but they do and neither man can seem to deny it no matter what is on the line.

I liked Paul and Zane, and I liked them together. Their age difference never bothered me and I think it’s because DJ Jamison does a great job of connecting these two. Both of these men have been hurt and have never really had a healthy, loving relationship with a partner before so they pretty much have to learn together. I loved Zane’s attitude and willingness to fight for Paul and what they shared. Paul’s a bit slower, but he with his career in jeopardy he has to be. Their relationship felt very real, with the sweet tender moments, the chemistry together and the struggles.

I really did enjoy this story from start to finish and found myself pretty attached to these two. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series – I’m hooked!

When Gage Evans gets a look at his hot nurse, he’s smitten immediately. Too bad he’s given the nurse the impression he’s some kind of daredevil. It couldn’t be further from the truth. Gage is a college journalism instructor writing a series of guest columns that require him to jump into new experiences — a fun bucket list, but one that does nothing to convince Ben he’s not an adrenaline junkie.

Fresh off his latest heartbreak, nurse Ben Griggs is wary when one of his patients shows an interest in him — especially when that patient showed up in the ER after a motorcycle accident. Ben’s ex was a biker, a friend with benefits, and he dropped Ben cold when someone more interesting came along. Ben isn’t the kind of guy who can hold the interest of an adrenaline junkie like Gage Evans for long. The last thing he wants is to lose his heart to the wrong man again.

The more Ben gets to know Gage, the harder he is to resist. He can only hold on for the ride and keep his guard up as much as he can. But Ben’s lack of trust seriously gets in the way of building a relationship, and Gage will only be patient so long. Can he trust Gage enough to give his heart, or are they destined to have a fling that goes nowhere?

This is a m/m romance. It is Book 6 in the Ashe Sentinel Connections series, but it can be read as a standalone.

This is a very sweet romance that will make your heart happy! Hot nurse and slightly clumsy teacher find happiness together when they least expect it. I really enjoyed this story and totally fell for Ben and Gage. They are both very likeable guys with a real-life feel that made me really want that sweet HEA for them.

Ben is an ER nurse who’s been burned in the past. He doesn’t want a relationship, convinced that he’ll only end up hurt. Gage grew up in the foster system and hasn’t really had a good, loving relationship in his life, but when he meets Ben after a motorcycle accident he sees an opportunity with someone very special. Both men have issues with trust but agree to fun series of dates to get to know each other and when things start to get real, their tender relationship is tested.

Again, this was a sweet story and I loved these two together. They are absolutely adorable even when being slightly hard-headed. Ben and Gage share a connection that is undeniable even if they have to fight for it sometimes. Ben and Gage both had to let go of their insecurities and be honest with each other in order to really be together, and they both learn that for the right person it’s definitely worth it. These two have great passion and love for each other and this story with definitely leave you with a happy heart and a smile.
