The friends to lovers trope really is one of my favorites and books like No Holding Back are why! This was such a sweet story about two young men who’ve been lifelong friends and how it becomes more. Nathan and Preston are adorable together whether in the friendship zone or as they become more.
Nathan knows he’s in love with Preston, but Preston is too focused on his swimming career to see anything beyond the pool. After tryouts for an exclusive swimming club that may lead to Olympic dreams, Nathan convinces, okay maybe forces, Preston to go with him on a European vacation. Preston wants nothing to do with this trip, he wants to focus on swimming and making it on to this team. Nathan has plans to tell Preston how he really feels on their trip, finally putting it all out there.
This is really a wonderfully sweet, charming story! Preston so adorably clueless to Nathan’s feelings and Nathan so desperately wanting to have that perfect moment for his “I love you” reveal. Things don’t go that well though, moments ruined by what seems like some sassy twists of fate. Nathan’s not going to give up though, and finally he gets his moment, although it’s assisted by a pot brownie. Just when feelings are finally shared and sweet, sweet kisses exchanged and it looks like they have a chance as a couple, things are thrown off as Preston has the chance to swim for the best. It’s now about what choice he will make.
I really enjoyed this book and was totally rooting for Nathan. He’s such a wonderful character, always cheering Preston on, pushing him to be his best and loving him. Preston, again just adorably clueless, takes some time to realize what Nathan actually means to him, but he gets there. I loved their journey together, traveling and experiencing all the little moments. I adored the end of this book and it made my heart all swoony and happy! No Holding Back is definitely a feel-good love story I would highly recommend; a story with of sweet love and great characters, I’d love to see what happens with Tash and Jackson too! I’m really looking forward to reading more from Kate Evangelista!
