Federal Agent Lucas Beaumont has an agenda — get himself assigned to the case of the apparent serial murders at Lancaster Falls, find out who the murderer is, and then lay the ghosts that haunt his grandfather to rest. In the midst of a horrific murder investigation, the only peace he gets is from simple moments in a warm kitchen, talking to hotel owner, Josh. Attraction to the easygoing man is something he didn’t expect; in doing so, he opens himself to hurt, but at the same time, he begins to fall in love.
Josh is struggling to keep the Falls Hotel, even with every cent he has invested in its upkeep. The one thing keeping him above water is the not entirely legal work he does on the side—a steady income that not even his son knows about. When the FBI takes over his hotel for the duration of the Hell’s Gate serial killer case, Josh is faced with the real possibility that Lucas will not only discover his secret but also steal his heart.
When tragedy hits Josh and his son, and when it seems all hope is lost, can Lucas rescue them both?
I have really enjoyed this series, following the characters and the very intriguing mystery that is Lancaster Falls and oh boy does RJ Scott really bring it all together in spectacular fashion. This is definitely not a stand-alone though, these books really do have to be read in order to understand everything that is happening.
In this book, we get to know more about Josh, the owner of the local hotel and his son Harry. He’s trying to build a life for them, even if it it means he does some secret contract work as a hacker. Something no one knows about. We also meet Federal Agent Lucas, in Lancaster Falls investigating the murders. A big part of this story though is the mystery and the murders, uncovering the secrets in town. While Lucas is there to help and find the killer, he also has additional motivation, trying to find a missing woman important to his grandfather. I have to say that I really liked these two, their connection and how their relationship builds. They have such a great chemistry and I loved their stolen moments together that become so much for them both. Of course, these two face some challenges but it’s in those moments that they really learn what they mean to each other.
I don’t want to go into much detail about how this all comes together, I don’t want to spoil anything but wow, it was action packed and intense. There is a lot to this story, but we finally get our answers and learn what really happened to Casey and where those bones came from. I enjoyed this book and this series overall. It really has it all, there’s murder, mystery, crazy secrets and also love, passion and wonderful couples building lives together. I can definitely say that I was happy with the way it ended, the story line itself and the loving couples.
