Blog Tour Review: Pulled Under by Lisa Renee Jones

Today I’m excited to share my review for Pulled Under by Lisa Renee Jones! It’s an action packed, romantic suspense book with a sexy alpha and sassy and strong female, definitely a must read!

Pulled Under Cover

A new sexy standalone from Lisa Renee Jones…

He is blond, tattooed, and dangerous. She’s as beautiful as she is mysterious and could be his destruction…

Asher wasn’t always a member of the elite Walker Security team, he was a billionaire’s son, who rebelled against his father’s controlling hand, and ended up in New York City’s underground of drugs, rock n roll, and danger. But that is long behind him, and while his tattoos and long blond hair remain, he’s now a chameleon, far more comfortable in a suit and tie than a leather jacket.

Or so he likes to tell himself.

But now Walker Security needs him back inside the underground club scene for a police case they’re working. Women are dying, murdered, and the clock is ticking until another victim is claimed. When Asher is pulled back into this toxic world he meets Sierra, who is as beautiful as she is mysterious. A woman who calls to a darker side of him, long suppressed, unleashing it in what becomes wicked hot passion and obsession. But Sierra has a secret, one that leads her, and Asher, to a dangerous place, and game, with dangerous players, and the game is about life or death.

5 Stars

Pulled Under, what a perfect title! I felt like this book totally consumed me, between the hot chemistry between Sierra and Asher, the action, the suspense, it just had it all! I love Lisa Renee Jones’s books and this is one of my favorites!

Asher is working under cover as a bartender, trying to catch a serial killer. Sierra is a woman on the run, desperately trying to hide and a job in a bar seems like a place to make some money. She doesn’t expect Asher though, or their connection and chemistry and when he discovers she has secrets he wants to help and for the first time might actually be able to. See, Sierra isn’t running from an abusive husband, no she’s running from an abusive husband who is trying to kill her and he just so happens to be one of the richest and most connected men in the country. Asher has connections though too and Walker Security has his back and he’s not going to let anyone get to Sierra again.

I loved this book and I could not put it down. It was exciting and intense but also loving and passionate too, Asher and Sierra have chemistry right from the start. I really enjoyed the investigation side of it as well, getting into the details of the serial killer crimes as well as the hunt for Sierra’s husband. The characters are great, I feel like I really know these people and their stories are exciting and still loving. Action packed and fun, this is definitely a favorite for me and I’m already looking forward to the next book in this series.

“You want more now, and yet you don’t want it enough to make it end. And I already don’t want it to end, Sierra.”
She leans into me, her head resting on my shoulder, emotion that isn’t pleasure radiating off of her and crashing into me. I cup her face and tilt her chin up, my thumb stroking her cheek. “What are you thinking?”
“Nothing. Everything. Can you kiss me again already?”
“Where, Sierra?”
“Where do you want me to kiss you? Tell me.”
“Everywhere.” She pushes to her toes, and her lips find mine, looking for an escape, trying to drive her demons away.
I want to demand her answer, make her tell me where she wants my mouth, but I feel her desperation, her need to escape whatever is in her head. And so, I press my lips to hers, I kiss her mouth, drinking her in, and I don’t taste him this time. I taste her. I taste us. I taste need and hunger and passion. “I want you naked,” I say, my hands sliding inside her jeans and panties. “In every possible way, Sierra.”
“I’m pretty sure I’m already there, and it’s terrifying.” She flattens her hand on my chest. “If you turn into an asshole, I swear—”
“You can punish me,” I promise, “and I’m still willing to offer suggestions.”
“If you turn into an asshole after I trusted you,” she says. “I won’t need suggestions, Mr. Ex-Navy SEAL who won’t be able to hide from my wrath.”
Fuck, I’m crazy about this woman. “Good thing I’m not going to turn into an asshole. I want you naked,” I repeat, and this time, I make it happen. I lower myself to one knee and take her jeans and panties with me. My arm wraps her waist and I lift her, dragging her clothing away, and setting her back down. My hands settle on her hips then and I look up at her. She stares down at me, the simmering look in her eyes all about arousal, submission. And I want that from her and not because it’s some sex game, of which I could play and play well.
I press my lips to her belly and just that easily she trembles, and it only makes me want more. Everything is more with her.  I drag my mouth lower and lower…

Brandon Gilbert has spent years in hiding, but he’s finally accomplished his dream of working as a public school teacher. When offered the chance to help bullied children, there was no way he could say no. Not to mention that meeting Dr. Tash Weber, the psychiatrist who helps them, a sad yet sexy older man, ignited a spark inside Brandon he’d never had before.

Though five years have passed since the death of his lover, Dr. Sebastian “Tash” Weber has no interest in relationships or love. But young, enigmatic Brandon awakens his heart and his desire. Despite Tash’s best efforts to push him away, Brandon unlocks the passion for life Tash thought he’d lost forever.

Falling in love wasn’t part of the plan for either Brandon or Tash, but neither family disapproval nor self-doubts can stop them from embracing the fire that burns between them. And when Brandon returns home to fight for a future he never imagined possible, he and Tash discover that the one thing worth fighting for has been with them all along.

5 Stars

I absolutely love this series, so packed with emotion and love and I think Kale Williams perfectly delivers these characters in the audiobook! This book brings the story of Tash and Brandon and finally brings all of the brothers back together. If you haven’t read this series, I highly recommend it!

Tash has given up on love, he doesn’t think it’s going to be a part of his future. He has his work, his friends and his cats, and that’s going to be good enough. Brandon certainly hasn’t had it easy, especially after his brothers Luke and Ash left. He escaped that horrible situation, but now he has secrets and is checking over his shoulder. But now he’s a teacher and that is what he’s always wanted to do. When another teacher introduces Brandon to a group where he could do even more good the last thing he expects is fall in love and find his brothers.

This book is quite possibly my favorite of the series, Felice Stevens brings this family back together and man it’s an emotional journey. It’s not easy for this group and then there’s Brandon and Tash. Tash has his own demons plus he thinks he’s too old for Brandon and doesn’t want to tie him down. Brandon has secrets he has to reveal that could jeopardize his entire future. This book went straight to my heart and stayed there. Tash and Brandon are two men that so deserve love and happiness and as much as they try to fight it they see that in each other too.

I think Kale Williams really delivers in his narration of this book. I love the emotion he brings to the story and for me, just truly captures these characters and their stories. I enjoy his storytelling and find myself feeling completely immersed in the story. He’s definitely a favorite for me!

This is a fantastic book and series and it’s among my favorite reads! Felice Stevens is one of those authors that always delivers for me, her books are emotional and powerful and so full of love and this book is a perfect example of why! I absolutely adored Tash and Brandon and their story made my heart happy! And the epilogue that so beautifully brings back the whole family and their relationships, oh my feels! A definite must read and must listen!

“Care to tell me what’s wrong?” Brandon zipped up his jacket.

“You don’t know? All weekend I’ve been deluding myself. We were caught up in this bubble we created, but now? Now that I have to come face-to-face with your brothers and Gage.” Tash shook his head. “I don’t know if I can do this.”

Heart beating madly, Brandon swallowed. “Can’t do what?” Don’t do this, please; don’t hide yourself away.

“Us. You, me. We’re at different places in our lives. You’re starting out, and with Ash and Luke, you have a whole new world open to you—places to explore and new people to meet.”

Tash unbuckled his seat belt and opened the car door but didn’t get out. “I’m the opposite. I’m ready to settle down. I’m not interested in nightlife and the latest scene. I can’t and won’t ask you to give it all up.” Tash climbed out of the car and slammed the door.

The hell he says. If Tash thought he’d simply state his opinions like God and proclaim what Brandon should do with the rest of his life, he was in for a fight. He wrenched open the door. “I’m not giving anything up. I was never into that.” Brandon slammed the car door behind him with a vicious thump. “Who do you think you are? You say you don’t want to be with me, yet you then get the right to lay out my life in neat little puzzle pieces so it all comes perfectly together as you see fit.”

Tash had stopped in his tracks but didn’t turn around. Hopeful that was a sign he was at least listening, Brandon continued.

“Sure we were in a bubble; it was wonderful this weekend, beautiful and amazing.” He advanced on Tash and stood before him. “Don’t think I don’t know, maybe better than anyone, how something so perfect and magical can be ripped away with no warning.” He put a hand on Tash’s shoulder, hoping Tash wouldn’t move away from him. “And now the hard stuff begins—reality and all the trouble that comes with it. But aren’t you willing to try? See where this journey takes us?”

“Brandon, you’re—”

“Don’t say it. I’ll tell you what I am. I’ve been homeless and hungry. I’ve lived on the streets with rats, not knowing where I would sleep at night. Do you think I’m looking for a man whose only interest is a twenty-dollar glass of wine and where the next party is?”

Tash said nothing, and Brandon had no more strength to argue. Besides, they were at the clinic to do a job. Last time he’d screwed up by running out, and he’d be damned if he’d do it again.

Felice Stevens has always been a romantic at heart. While life is tough, she believes there is a happy ending for everyone. She started reading traditional historical romances as a teenager, then life and law school got in the way. It wasn’t until she picked up a copy of Bertrice Small and became swept away to Queen Elizabeth’s court that her interest in romance novels was renewed.

But somewhere along the way, her reading shifted to stories of men falling in love. Once she picked up her first gay romance, she became so enamored of the character-driven stories and the overwhelming emotion there was no turning back.

Felice lives in New York City with her husband and two children. Her day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. Although she practices law, she daydreams of a time when she can sit by a beach and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be some angst along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.

Amber’s 5 Star Review
Kindle Alexander does it once again for me, bringing out so many emotions in this wonderful story of connection, acceptance and love. I adored Thane and Levi both individually and as a couple. Two men set in their views, with lots of walls and lots of insecurities. When they meet it was more than electric; seriously the explosions were white hot! But one incredible night brought so many anxieties and freak outs on both parts. I loved that Levi never backed down on his goals, and he held firm to his need to work for whatever he or his brother’s needed. Likewise I loved how Thane has a single focus about what he wants, though Levi Silva definitely rocked his foundation. Watching them find their way to be together has to have made Reservations one of my favorites from KA for sure!! Can’t wait for Julian’s story bc he was so awesome in how he was a friend to both, calling them both out on their stupid! Loved it!!
Jenn’s 5 Star Review
Kindle Alexander has done it again, another emotionally charged, consuming story about two men who truly deserve happiness and find it together. I absolutely adored Thane and Levi and their journey made even better by the appearances from characters from previous books. I fell completely, head over heels for these two men and their passion and love!
Thane is a very driven and successful man, he goes after what he wants and makes it happen. He doesn’t do relationships or emotional attachment and sex is basically a business transaction for him. Levi left medical school to take care of his younger brothers after their father’s death. He has goals of getting back to medical school but that is going to take money, something he doesn’t have much of. Levi is offered a job at a new club called Reservations, a place where he can earn a lot more money. It does mean that he’d be wearing a very skimpy uniform for high paying men though. Levi makes it clear that he will not have sex for money. When Thane first sees his newest employee, the attraction is immediate and undeniable for both men but there’s a major misunderstanding between the two that could jeopardize everything that could be between them.
Once again Kindle Alexander weaves a perfect web of romance, humor, drama, healing and above all else love. Thane has to come to learn that not everything has a price and he definitely some making up to do with Levi. He has to show that he truly cares. Levi has plenty of his own issues as well, and is trying to make the right decisions for his family. This story and these characters went straight to my heart and I loved every bit of it! Another wonderful book from Kindle and I’m already looking forward to their next story!
Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It’s always a surprise to see what’s coming next!

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

Review Tour with Excerpt: The Other Brother by Meghan Quinn

THE OTHER BROTHER by Meghan Quinn is finally here! Check out the excerpt and teasers!

NA Romantic Comedy
Model: David Harris
I got the call. The dreaded call every child fears. My dad wasn’t well, and the man who had always been my everything needed me.
There was only one thing to do; pack up and head back to my hometown. I had finally made my dream life in the city with the great job and loving boyfriend. But was there really a choice not to go?
I found a wonderful job, a quaint house to rent, my boyfriend was working on joining me in Binghamton, and my favorite pizza place was only miles away. Life was good.
Until I met my neighbor.
It’s been three years since I’d seen Aaron Walters, and my God is he all kinds of sexy gorgeous. Figures. He was supposed to be my forever, the man I grew old with, but he had different plans. How can a man who ripped my heart apart still trip me up? How can he make me still want him now more than ever?
I’m tempted, I’m drawn toward him, I’m completely and utterly unaware that I’m dating his biological brother.
Now two men own my heart. The question is, which brother will I choose?
Jenn Review
5 Stars
So every time I read a Meghan Quinn book I fall in love with her characters and there’s still that part of me that thinks I can’t possible love them more than the last book. Well I’m thinking Aaron takes the cake, well the Little Debbie! She makes me laugh, she makes me cry, she makes me fall in love and oh does she make me feel! Meghan Quinn has become an absolute must read for me!
Aaron and Amelia fell in love the first time when they were young. Aaron made the choice to set Amelia free to live her life to the fullest and it was a decision that broke both their hearts. A few years later Amelia returns to her hometown to care for her father who is battling Alzheimer’s and holy moly her new neighbor is none other than Aaron. It’s not the best start to a second chance but some sassy elderly neighbors and some egg cartons later these two just may be on the path to friendship again, and maybe even more. The only problem facing their second chance, Amelia had a boyfriend.
There is so much I love about this story, it’s hard to even know where to start. I’m a sucker for a second chance (or more) story and you add in this group’s humor and obsession with Little Debbie and yeah, it checks all the boxes. Aaron grew up as the other brother, his mother an addict who gave his two brothers up for adoption so they could have better lives, but not Aaron. He lives with the idea that he’s not and will never be enough. Amelia suffered a massive heartbreak when Aaron dumped her, not really ever getting over it and being with him now, it makes her question her feelings.
This book is filled with so much emotion, the fun and the punch to the feels kind but their story is just everything. My heart really broke or Aaron at times, but I was rooting for him all the way. I think he is one of Meghan’s sweetest but smexy guys yet! Their story is sexy and sweet and fun and just all the feels! Another definite must read from Meghan Quinn!

Why? Why does he have to magically appear in my life? Moving back to Binghamton, I thought about the possibility of maybe running into him, but I thought it unlikely, something that would never really happen.

Boy, was I wrong.

What a sick joke life is playing on me.

Aaron Walters, the boy who broke me into pieces is my neighbor.

I can’t fathom the impact I feel already.

Seeing him in hip-hugging jeans and a tight, plain shirt did a number on me. It kept me up all night as memories of what we used to have flooded my mind.

His voice.

His stature.

The way he used to kiss my neck.

The way I felt so protected in his arms.

Too bad his arms couldn’t protect me from his devastating, heart-breaking self.

And hell, he looked good. Too good.

He’s always been tall with handsome features and a chiseled jaw, but now he’s bulked up to the point that I could see his abs flexing under his shirt, the same shirt that stretched over his biceps.

But it wasn’t his muscles or handsome features that once again made my heart ache, it was those eyes. So bright, so blue, so kind, but still so sad. It reminded me of the first day I met him, of the day he stole my heart from every other man on the market.

Broken, unsure, yet yearning for love. It was all there, and like experiencing a moment of déjà vu, I was transported back into a time when I felt invisible, like I could conquer anything with him at my side.

Once again, I was wrong.

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.
Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.
Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Title: Stryke First
Series: Rock Series #5
Author: Sandrine Gasq-Dion
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: October 15, 2017

Rebel Stryker has had to fight to survive from the moment he was born to a heroin-addicted mother. Raised by his grandparents, his only mission in life was to succeed where his mother had failed. Now, he and his childhood best friends tour the world as a famous heavy metal band. Like any rags-to-riches young man, Rebel definitely enjoys the perks of being in the limelight.

But now something has changed.

Rebel never wanted to fall in love, shying away from relationships and relishing his ‘no worries’ rock-star persona. But there’s something about the band’s new manager that catches Rebel’s eye. Despite fighting it with everything he has, Rebel finds himself succumbing to man’s quiet ways. It doesn’t hurt that the guy loves Rebel’s grandpa — the one relationship that means the world to him.

Staying true to his name, Rebel fights against the tide of attraction drawing him in. But it’s only a matter of time before love finally strikes.

Stan Jackson is hiding a secret. A Very Big Secret. One he prays will never come to light, especially since life is pretty good now. He finally has a good job, and he considers the people around him friends — even if they don’t see him the same way. All he’s ever wanted in life is to blend in, not make waves, and move on through. Now, as the manager of the internationally famous Skull Blasters rock band, he is put squarely into bassist Rebel Stryker’s orbit. He spends a lot of time with Rebel’s grandfather, which is not only fun, but rewarding. Another big benefit is that Stan gets to see Rebel all the time. When his past catches up to him, Stan learns that he isn’t just the Skull Blasters’ manager.

He’s a part of their family.

I am a huge fan of this series and have really enjoyed all of these books and Stryke First was just as wonderful! I love the way Sandrine Gasq-Dion creates these characters that are broken but still so love-able and right as I was starting this book I heard the news of her passing. It made this book even more emotional for me, and it broke me heart in many ways. She will be sorely missed and my heart goes out to her family and friends.

The story itself captured me right from the start, finally learning the truth about Stan and where he comes from. He’s been the band manager for a while now, but he keeps his life guarded, trying to make sure he stays hidden from his past. That doesn’t stop his crush on Rebel though. Rebel was raised by his grandparents and now it’s just him and his hilarious grandfather, but he’s facing his own health issues. The band helps with him as does Stan which is what really seems to bring the two together.

I loved how their story unfolded, the relationship between Stan and Rebel, these two have had their share of hardships in life, but there’s something about them together that just fits so perfectly. They definitely struggle with their feelings at times, Rebel afraid of getting attached since, in his view, everything good gets taken away at some point, and Stan, running from a painful past and afraid of being hurt again. As Stan’s real identity comes out, his name is really Jax, Rebel and the rest of the band show just how much they really do care about him.

There is certainly a good amount of drama in this story, as well as humor and love and I adored it from start to finish. This book really shows that you don’t have to be related to be family, that family can be those around you and just how important that bond can be. Jax and Rebel were perfect together, their journey everything I’d hoped it would be. I’ve grown so very attached to these characters in this series and now Jax and Rebel are among my favorites. It truly breaks my heart to think this journey has come to an end. I highly recommend this entire series, it’s got off the charts chemistry, great characters and beautiful love and I thank you Sandrine for these wonderful stories.

Let me start by saying that Heidi did SOOOO GOOD!! This book! Guys I mean it, there just aren’t words adequate enough to describe the range of emotions brought by this story! It was heartbreaking and hopeful and angsty in a way that I just couldn’t stop reading. I’ve always loved this Beaumont Series from the first time I read Forever My Girl, so to now experience Noah and Peyton as adults? Well let me say there were a lot of tears! A LOT! And I may have yelled at the author while reading a time or 10, but it was simply perfection. I’m so totally in love with Noah Westbury as a grown man! He was everything and more that I hoped for, much like this book!  HOLDING ONTO FOREVER just became my new favorite Heidi McLaughlin read to date!! Just beautiful and wonderful and amazing!

Experience the novella that brought us back and is the perfect lead into Peyton & Noah’s story. FOREVER OUR BOYS is available now! Spend a long girls weekend in the Bahamas with Josie, Kaitlyn and Jenna to get the momma’s insights into their love journeys as well as the people their kids are growing into. These three are the best of friends for a reason. Here’s my review of this fun, fun story.

You know those series that just make you feel good? The ones that the characters just become a part of who you are, so that when you come back to them it’s like coming home? Yeah Heidi McLaughlin and her Beaumont Series are that for me, and that’s what reading FOREVER OUR BOYS was a homecoming.

Josie, Kaitlyn and Jenna. The best of friends, all married to the best of friends. The story is set around them going on a girls weekend. I loved the snapshots into their lives now, what’s the same and what’s not, what they are struggling with and what they hope. I loved the looks back and the perspectives given. It was amazing and wonderfully written! Prepare yourselves because this novella is setting us up to the beginning of HOLDING ONTO FOREVER.

I always believed in fairy tales. So much so that I made a career out of them. As a wedding planner, I made it my goal to perfect everyone else’s happily-ever-after. I even believed in finding mine once, too, until one man left me alone and pregnant –crushing my dreams, and leaving me jaded.

I was living every man’s dream; I had the career I’d always wanted, my soulmate in my corner, an adorable daughter, and a son on the way. Everything was perfect until it wasn’t. A series of unforeseen events tragically altered my path. In the blink of an eye, I was left a widower and a single father of two.

I wasn’t seeking love again, but she found me. Now I just needed to break down her walls and help her fall.

An absolutely beautiful story of second chance love. This was my first book from MC Decker, and I am totally in love with the characters she created in Blake and Cassidy. In UNFORESEEN you have a single dad in Blake, who found himself a widow after a drunk driver plows into his pregnant wife. Cassidy is a single mom to a sassy and adorable girl. Neither is looking for a relationship, but when they meet Blake knows she’s the one to bring him alive again.

Fraught with laughter, passion and oh so many tears. Decker definitely tore me apart from the start, and it was an emotional ride for certain! Blake was sure of his desire for Cass and I loved his flirting game and he could definitely dirty talk with the best! Cass was independent and smart, but still vulnerable in so many ways. Watching these two fight demons and insecurities to get to their happily ever after was all I could’ve hoped for! Just a lovely story!

Show Me the Way

The first stand-alone novel in A.L. Jackson’s brand-new Fight for Me series…

“This book is absolutely perfect.” – Corinne Michaels, New York Times Bestselling Author

The first sexy, captivating, stand-alone novel in the brand-new FIGHT FOR ME series from NYT & USA Today Bestselling Author A.L. Jackson . . .
Rex Gunner. As bitter as he is beautiful.
The owner of the largest construction company in Gingham Lakes has been burned one too many times. His wife leaving him to raise their daughter was the last blow this single dad could take. The only woman he’ll let into his heart is his little girl.
Rynna Dayne. As vulnerable as she is tempting.
She ran from Gingham Lakes when she was seventeen. She swore to herself she would never return. Then her grandmother passed away and left her the deed to the diner that she once loved.
When Rex meets his new neighbor, he knows he’s in trouble.
She’s gorgeous and sweet and everything he can’t trust.
Until she becomes the one thing he can’t resist.
One kiss sends them tumbling toward ecstasy.
But in a town this size, pasts are bound to collide. Caught in a web of lies, betrayal, and disloyalty, Rex must make a choice.
Will he hide behind his walls or will he take the chance . . .

I think this is my favorite A.L. Jackson book so far, I absolutely loved this emotional journey with Rynna and Rex, they stole my heart!
Rynna only returns to the hometown she ran away from so many years ago after her grandmother dies, leaving everything she has to Rynna. She’s rebuilt her life and has become a much stronger woman, determined to reopen her grandma’s diner. She hopes that people won’t remember her from back then. Rex doesn’t have room in his life for anyone but his daughter. His wife left him with her and never looked back and he believes that he’ll just ruin everything with anyone else. It’s all about his little girl. But when Rynna moves in across the street from Rex there is an instant connection, one neither seems prepared for and one that just cannot be ignored, no matter how hard Rex tries.
Rex and Rynna are both two broken people with painful pasts but find something special together.  Slowly but surely it becomes clear that these two just need to take a chance on each other, it’s just meant to happen. I loved this journey, these two beautiful souls healing and falling in love. Rex especially, oh that poor man is so broken, but as he lets go, oh my heart! I really loved this book, the emotion, the smiles and the fantastic characters. I’m definitely hooked on this series and am already looking forward to what’s next! A definite, swoony must read!

When a brutal attack from a jealous competitor leaves Noah Strauss, darling of the modeling world, physically scarred and emotionally damaged, he quits the runway to become a psychologist. Using his contacts from his time in the spotlight, he creates One Call Away, a radio show dedicated to gay men looking for love, advice or someone to talk to. But with secrets of his own and a mother who refuses to understand the career path he’s chosen, the one person Noah can’t seem to help is himself.

On a drunken dare from the senior partner’s grandson, Oren Leavitt calls Noah’s radio show, pretending to be gay. Only Oren isn’t certain if he’s pretending. He’s left his strict Orthodox Jewish upbringing behind, but the guilt remains. Guilt that his actions have prevented his sister from finding a husband and guilt that he’s failed his parents. Talking to “Dr. Noah” helps, and as he finds himself calling the man again and again, he knows he must be honest. But Oren is unsure if he’s lying to Noah or himself.

For Noah, trust is paramount; he’s been deceived in his personal and professional life and while he desperately wants to help Oren, he also finds himself falling for the sweet and tortured man. Oren is trapped: he risks losing his job and more importantly the love and security of his family but knows he can’t hide if if wants to be with Noah. When unresolved heartaches from the past rise up to control the present, Noah and Oren discover that love often comes from the most unexpected places, and sometimes a call for help not only saves a life, it can be a new and beautiful beginning.

I absolutely loved this book when I read it the first time and was definitely excited about the audiobook too and for me, Seth Clayton totally nails the narration. I really felt like he captured the emotions and the characters in this story, he really brought them to life. There are a lot of emotions in this story, both Noah and Oren are dealing with a lot and Mr. Clayton never missed an emotion for me, whether it was a funny moment, passionate one or heavily emotional he delivered every time. I will definitely add him to my favorite narrators and will be on the lookout for other audiobooks from him!

Original Book Review

4.5 Stars

Oh this story is just beautiful! Felice Stevens has a remarkable ability to write stories and characters that just go straight to the heart and she has most definitely done it again with One Call Away! Noah and Oren just *sigh* my heart!

Noah and Oren will take you on an emotional journey of self discovery and love! What starts out as a phone call becomes friendship and finally everything! There is so much emotion and feeling in this story that you can feel it right along with these two. Despite having professional success both of these men so lonely and fragile, but once they find each other it truly changes their lives.

I loved the journey with these two, the connection they shared and the chemistry too! Noah and Oren grow together and heal themselves along the way. This is definitely one of those stories where you know these characters were just meant to be, two halves coming together to finally be whole. I pretty much feel like picking up a book by Felice Stevens is going to give me all the feels and leave my heart ridiculously happy and One Call Away certainly did all of that! This was another don’t miss read!

One Call Away Teaser 3

“I told you already, I’m their charity case, their token Jew.” When he took the job, Oren thought he could brush it off, but lately the sense of ostracism was proving harder to handle than he’d imagined. Isolated by his religion and his sexuality, the only time lately Oren found himself able to be free was when talking to Noah.

“Every year they make a show of how diverse they are with their one black first-year hire, and their Asian and Latino associates. We’re paraded around to the legal community as DeWitt and Wynters’ ‘new generation’ of lawyers who are breaking the mold of the white, Christian elite, upper echelon when in reality they give us the grunt work or the impossible-to-win cases. The special outings are at golf courses, which have no members like us, and we don’t know how to play, so we sit around doing nothing, while the others have a great time bonding. Either that or they schedule firm parties on Jewish holidays when they know I can’t attend. They put on a good show, but we know we don’t belong, and we’re too afraid to complain or say anything because jobs are so hard to come by, and the firm’s name still opens so many doors.”

Stunned at his bitter outburst, Oren smiled faintly at Noah. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to let it out on you.”

“I’m glad you did.” A twinkle lit Noah’s eyes. “Sounds like something you’ve been holding back for a while now.” He sobered up. “I’m sorry you have to go through that. Isn’t there another place you can work where you’ll feel safe?”

“I’m sure if they are as bigoted as they sound against people of color and other religions, they are also intolerant of gays.”

Not in a million years would Oren ever speak of his sexuality to Harlan or Toby. Even the fact that Harlan had spoken to Noah freaked him out a bit.

“It isn’t something I plan to discuss with them. It’s none of their business.” Agitated, Oren turned away from Noah and fumbled in the drawer for a corkscrew. With quick, angry turns, he opened the wine.

“It was only a thought. I’m not saying you should.” Noah’s soothing voice steadied the rapid thump of Oren’s heart. “What was his name again, the guy I spoke to on the phone?”

“Harlan.” The sound of that name sent a sinking feeling into the pit of Oren’s stomach. “He’s not only in charge of my group; he’s the great-grandson of one of the firm’s founders and can do whatever he wants. And he does.”

“See, that’s what I thought. His voice…it sounded cunning. Like he was trying to figure something out and use it against you. I got worried and thought of how upset you might be. I’m so sorry you have to put up with someone like him. You deserve so much better.” Noah’s eyes searched his, and Oren couldn’t break away from the pull of their blue depths.

An unfamiliar ache of longing built up inside him, painful yet sweet. A need to touch and be touched with meaning. He found himself drawn to Noah, much more so than to any person he’d ever met. Was it wrong of him to want Noah? He considered him his doctor, his therapist. Most importantly, Noah was his friend. In these past few weeks something between them changed, and Oren found himself thinking of Noah as a man and not merely a risk. And staring into Noah’s eyes, Oren knew that wanting Noah might be worth the risk he was finally willing to take.

I have always been a romantic at heart. I believe that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending just around the corner. I started reading traditional historical romances when I was a teenager, then life and law school got in the way. It wasn’t until I picked up a copy of Bertrice Small and became swept away to Queen Elizabeth’s court that my interest in romance novels became renewed.

But somewhere along the way, my tastes shifted. While I still enjoys a juicy Historical romance, I began experimenting with newer, more cutting edge genres and discovered the world of Male/Male romance. Once I picked up her first, I became so enamored of the authors, the character-driven stories and the overwhelming emotion of the books, I knew I wanted to write my own.

I live in New York City with my husband and two children and hopefully soon a cat of my own. My day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. I practice law but daydream of a time when I can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be angst along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.

Dane James worked my stepfather’s fields. He was the boy next door.

From the moment we met, we were star-crossed lovers—always wanting, never having. We loved each other for most of our lives, but right from the beginning destiny had other plans. She knew we would fall in love. She knew we would fall apart. Over and over again, like the curse of a recurring nightmare. Or the hope of a familiar dream.

Our past was tumultuous. Our future was bleak. But the one thing we always had was the beautiful now.

Until that was taken from us, too.

5 Beautiful Stars

I am a huge Michelle Leighton fan, I love her characters and stories and The Beautiful Now is one of her best yet! This is a beautiful second chance story about true love that stands the test of time. Michelle creates these beautiful characters that capture your heart and uses stunning imagery that transports you into their world.

This story is a great mix of the adult romance and new adult feel, being told from present day and teenage years. I really loved that about this book, it really gives a lot of insight into the characters and their journey. Brinkley is a smart and strong-willed girl, but her mother believes that money and status are what matters in life and expects Brinkley to behave that way.  She is supposed to have the ‘right’ friends and date the ‘right’ boys, no matter how they actually treat her, but she meets the farmhand’s son Dane James nothing will ever be the same for either of them.

As an adult we see Brinkley return to her hometown with her daughter Celina, and the only reason she’s back is for Celina. Brinkley has to come to terms with the past and this town for her daughter, but when she sees Dane in the same fields it’s much harder than she ever thought it would. She’s going to have to explain why she left, why she’s returned and reveal even more about her daughter.

There is so much emotion in this story, from the first page to the last. This is not just a love story between Brinkley and Dane, but also a story about family and the love parents have for their children. Michelle truly captures that deep love and devotion in this book. Brinkley and Dane have that special forever love, but that doesn’t mean their story is easy. There is love, but there is anger and pain between them as well and oh it made my heart ache. I loved everything about this book, all the smiles and tears and epic swoons. I adored Brinkley and Dane and wanted all the happiness for these two – they truly deserved it! Michelle has created another stunning story that I fell completely in love with and one that will stay in my heart!

Here’s what early readers are saying:

✩ “This is the best book that I have read in 2017 yet!!” — Heidi

✩ “I truly wish I could give this one more five stars, I would definitely give 10 if I could. This is one of those books, you just know from the beginning is going to pull at your heartstrings and it really does. I’ve read of ton of books this year and this one just moved to the top of my favorites list.” — Catherine

✩ “The Beautiful Now is exactly that – Beautiful. It’s love story of epic proportions.” — Courtney

✩ “What I loved was that their story transcends the span of 22 years and shows that love can last forever even when all the odds are stacked against you. That there is always a way even when we think all hope is lost. That even when we do what we think is best and hurt the ones we love that their is forgiveness to be found and second chances are a blessing not to be taken lightly. And when faced with the harsh realities of life, love can still prevail over all.” — Jennifer
✩ “I started reading – and I kept on reading. I couldn’t stop. It was all so heartbreakingly sad and beautiful and sweet and frustrating and I just could not stop.” — Bianca
