Play it by Ear Cover

My muse is gone, and I haven’t written a word of music in over a year. Every time I close my eyes, all I can see is Dawson. Nine years ago, just before Downward Spiral’s first major tour, I met my soulmate and then I walked away. Now that I’ve finally tracked him down again, things have changed. I’ll have to make him fall for me all over again. But is it possible I put our single weekend together on a pedestal or could Dawson really be The One?

A traumatic brain injury nine years ago left me deaf and with spotty memory of the first twenty years of my life. When one of the biggest rock stars in the world shows up and seems to know me, I’m not sure what to believe. Is it possible he’s telling the truth when he says he’s been in love with me for nine years, even if I can’t remember ever meeting him?

***Play it by Ear is the second book in the Replay series. Each book in the series will focus on a different band member getting a second chance at love. Each book can be read as a stand-alone.

Jenn Review

I am really enjoying this series and I think Lando and Dawson just became my favorites! (So far) It was pull at the heart strings but not overly angsty or dramatic, it felt just right. Both men living a life they hadn’t planned on, without each other until fate brings them back together again!

Lando still remembers the guy he hooked up with years ago, the one he spent a weekend with, the one who never called. He can’t seem to get over that guy and he is struggling professionally and personally. Dawson can’t remember a lot of things, he lost his hearing and a lot of memories in his accident. He’s obsessed with a band he can’t ever remember hearing. Both men end up in the same Florida town where they met and they find each other again.

These two are just meant to be, you feel it from the start and that feeling just grows as these two find each other and get to know each other again! My heart hurt for them both, the different things they’ve been through and then to find each other, it made me so happy! I loved their relationship, sure it’s quick but I totally bought in! I loved their connection, despite everything that happened. And I LOVED Dawson, he totally owned my heart! I really enjoyed this book from start to finish and am looking forward to the next!

PibE teaser 1A

The blank pages taunt me cruelly. No matter how many times I put the tip of my pencil to the paper, it remains blank. Have you ever felt like your entire life depended on your ability to do something that you suddenly couldn’t do? Not that I’m going to die if I can’t write. But if I can’t do this, the band will be dead, and I might as well die along with it.

“Just write,” I command myself, putting the tip of the pencil to the paper once more. “It can’t be that difficult. You’ve written three dozen songs, if not more. Just put one word in front of the other until you have enough words to fill three minutes or so.”

I drill the tip of the pencil into the paper, but still no words come.

“Goddammit,” I roar, snapping the pencil in my fist and throwing the pieces to the ground. “Dammit, dammit, dammit.”

A familiar resentment simmers in my chest. If Lincoln wasn’t such a mess, I wouldn’t be in this position. When we signed our first contract with Epic Records a decade ago, Lincoln and I agreed we’d share the responsibility of writing music. How many songs has Lincoln written? Two. Two fucking songs in ten years while I sit here with an ulcer over needing to get a whole album written in the next few weeks.

“Fuck you, Lincoln, and fuck me, too,” I mutter, heaving myself off the couch and heading to my kitchen to grab another beer.

How’s this for the wild Friday night in a rock star’s life? Drinking beer and berating myself in my deathly quiet penthouse.

I wander over to the window that takes up the entire east wall. City lights twinkle like stars all around, but when I tilt my head to see the actual stars, there’s nothing but hazy light polluting the sky.

I lift the bottle of beer to my lips and gulp down half of it in one go. None of this was how it was supposed to be. When we started this band, we were nothing more than best friends sharing a love of music. When we were signed by Epic, we were all so sure this was going to change our lives. We weren’t wrong. A decade later we have seven albums, three of which went platinum, we’re a household name, our songs—my songs—are on every radio station. We’re living the dream. So why does it feel so empty?

I rest my palm against the frigid glass of the window and wonder for the millionth time what the point of all this is.

The shrill sound of my phone ringing makes me jump. I reach into my pocket and see Archer’s name on the screen. There’s only one reason our band manager would be calling me after midnight on a random Friday.

“Is he okay?” I ask as soon as I answer. My voice sounds flat to my own ears, and I wonder if Archer notices it. I feel wrung out physically and emotionally. I’m a battery with only ten percent life left and no charger in sight.

“He’s in the hospital,” Archer replies, sounding just as exhausted as I am.

“How bad is it?”

“Not sure yet. They’re pumping his stomach. It looks like he drank a liter of whiskey. I found him asleep on his balcony, damn near frozen.”

“On his balcony?” I put my hand back on the freezing glass and shiver. “It’s like twelve degrees outside.”

“Yeah,” Archer agrees.

“What do you need me to do?”

“Nothing tonight. I just wanted to let you know, and I was hoping I could swing by to talk after he’s out of the hospital. Maybe tomorrow evening?”

“Yeah, any time,” I agree. “Do you want me to call Benji and Jude?”

“It’s okay; I need something to do to distract myself while I wait. Thanks though.”

“No problem. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

I hang up and gulp down the rest of my beer. Sometimes it feels like these aren’t the lives we were meant to live. We all got off track somewhere. I can pinpoint exactly where my life split into a before and after. I’ve written a dozen songs about him. I’ve stayed up nights thinking about him. I’ve gotten drunk and cried over him. I hardly know him, but in nine years, I haven’t been able to shake him. What I wouldn’t give to go back and do something differently. Maybe I’d never leave him. Maybe I’d beg him to come with me. I don’t know what I’d do, but it wouldn’t be this.

I toss the empty bottle in the recycling and amble to my bedroom, stripping out of my clothes as I go. Maybe I’ll dream some damn lyrics and save my own ass. More likely I’ll dream of him.

Double Full:

Up and coming football hero, Colt Michaels, makes a Hail Mary pass one night in the college locker room that results in the hottest, sexiest five days of his young life. However, interference after the play has him hiding his past and burying his future in the bottom of a bottle. While Colt seems to have it all, looks can be deceiving especially when you’re trapped so far in a closet that you can’t see your way out.

Jace Montgomery single-handily built the largest all-star cheerleading gym in the world, driven by a need to forget a life-altering encounter with a handsome quarterback a decade ago. When he learns some upsetting news about his ex-lover, his heart executes a barrel roll and his carefully placed resolve tumbles down without a mat to absorb the shock. Can his island escape help him to finally let go of the past and move his life forward?
Full Disclosure:
Deputy United States Marshal Mitch Knox apprehends fugitives for a living. His calm, cool, collected attitude and devastatingly handsome good looks earn him a well-deserved bad boy reputation, both in the field and out. While away on an assignment, he blows off some steam at a notorious Dallas nightclub. Solving the case that has plagued him for months takes a sudden backseat to finding out all there is to know about the gorgeous, shy blond sitting alone at the bar.
Texas State Trooper Cody Turner dreams of being a Texas Ranger, and he’s moving up the ranks, well on his way to making it happen. But for the next two-weeks, he’s on vacation, and his plans include relaxing and helping out on his family’s farm. The last distraction he needs is a tatted-up temptation who walks into the bar and steals his baseball cap.

As Mitch’s case gains nationwide attention, how will he convince the sexy state trooper that giving him a chance won’t jeopardize his life’s plan…especially when the evil he’s tracking brings the hate directly to his doorstep, threatening more than just their careers?

Full Domain:

Honor, integrity, and loyalty are how Deputy US Marshal Kreed Sinacola lives his life. A former SEAL now employed by the Special Operations Group of the US Marshal Service, Kreed spends most of his life working covert operations…and avoiding relationships. But his boundaries blur and his convictions are put to the test when he finally comes face-to-face with the hot computer geek he’s been partnered with.

Aaron Stuart strives for one thing: justice. Young and full of idealism, his highly sought after computer skills land him a position with the National Security Agency. Aaron’s biggest hazard at his job is cramped fingers, but all that changes when he’s drawn into the middle of a dangerous federal investigation. And his attraction to his new inked up, dark-haired partner provides another kind of threat altogether. While Aaron tries desperately to place a firewall around his heart and fight his developing feelings, one misstep on his part could ultimately destroy him.

The solution isn’t as easy as solving the case, which is treacherous enough as it is. But the growing sexual attraction between them threatens to derail more than just Kreed’s personal convictions as he quickly learns temptation and matters of the heart rarely fit easily into the rules he’s lived by. Will Kreed be able to convince Aaron to open his heart and face the fact that sometimes the answers aren’t always hidden in code?

5+ Stars
I love this bundle so hard! I read and absolutely loved each of these books as they came out individually and now having them all together as a bundle is great! This has long been one of my favorite series ever and I’ve read their stories more than once, these characters and their journeys together always get me in the feels. They make me laugh, cry and fall head over heels in love! The bonus content that has been added is absolute perfection, it’s like visiting your family and catching up.
Colt and Jace, Mitch and Cody and then there’s Kreed and Aaron, amazingly strong and powerful characters and even stronger love! This collection is an absolute MUST READ with heart and humor. If you’ve already read these books I still recommend getting this collection for the bonus content, it’s fantastic to be back in their world and if you haven’t read it, well I highly recommend it, these guys are favorites who are forever in my heart!
Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It’s always a surprise to see what’s coming next!

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

Detective Mitch O’Neill is the ideal man to infiltrate the Soldiers of Fury Motorcycle Club. His ex-boyfriend, Peter, is pledged with the club, which provides Mitch with the perfect cover. When Mitch is assigned as Finn’s driver, they spend countless hours together, and the saying proves true—opposites do attract. Mitch tries to come to terms with falling for a member of the outlaw club he’s determined to destroy.

If they can survive the fallout from Rocky’s violence and the investigation, they might discover it’s not a case of opposites attract after all.

An undercover cop and not so bad bad guy – this was a very entertaining story! I loved the dynamic between these characters and the build up too! Mitch and Finn were great together no matter how much it wasn’t supposed to happen!

I found myself very invested in this story and not just Mitch and Finn but Pete as well and the roles that they all played! The tension and suspense kept me going and I loved the ending, it was exactly what I wanted! Definitely an enjoyable read!

I’ve really enjoyed this series so far and was really excited about Frankie’s story! It wasn’t quite what I expected but I definitely enjoyed it and totally fell in love with Frankie! I love a second chance story and Felice Stevens certainly delivers!
After getting to know Frankie in Austin and Rhoades’ books and really wanted to see him find happiness! I do have to admit that it took me a little while to warm up to Aaron, he wasn’t my favorite guy at first! He definitely did grow on me though, I loved seeing him grow and learn and become the person he was supposed to see. I really appreciated Frankie’s strength too, he’s been through some rough times and comes out stronger.
Love isn’t always easy or pretty and I think Felice Stevens does a great job of telling a story that deals with the harder parts. Aaron has made mistakes but isn’t bad and Frankie sees the good in him and is willing to give him a second chance. What these two build together is a healthy and happy relationship and loved seeing these two figure it out! A fantastic series to fall in love with!

Length: 85,000 words approx.

One’s proud, one’s prejudiced, and they can’t stand each other.

Quick-tempered Bennet Rourke dislikes Darius Lanniker on sight. Darius may be a hotshot city lawyer, but that doesn’t give him the right to sneer at Bennet, his friends, and their college. It doesn’t help that Bennet’s restaurant job has him waiting at Darius’s table. So when his tutor recommends him for an internship at Darius’s Pemberley estate, Bennet isn’t sure he wants it. He’s also not sure he can afford to turn it down.

Darius is a fish out of water in the small college town of Meriton, but something keeps pulling him back there. He’s helping out a friend with business advice, nothing more. If he’s interested in Bennet, it’s not serious. Sure, Bennet challenges him in a way no other man has. But they have nothing in common. Right?

Wrong. Their best friends are falling in love, and Bennet and Darius can’t seem to escape each other. Soon they’re sharing climbing ropes and birthday cake, and there’s a spark between them that won’t be denied.

But betrayal is around the corner. Darius must swallow his pride and Bennet must drop his prejudices to see the rainbow shining through the storm clouds.

A standalone novel—a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Note: contains mention of past abuse.

Jenn Review

4 – 4.5 Stars

Phew – I really enjoyed this book, from start to finish but oh the push and pull between these two! I liked both Bennet and Darius right from the start, they are both strong and stubborn men and it made for an entertaining and angsty story! So much stubborn male!

These two are at odds right from the start, they do not like each other and it only gets more difficult when their best friends Jamie and Tim fall for each other. There is great sexual tension between Bennet and Darius despite their dislike and I really enjoyed it! It was clear that these two felt something but neither man seemed to know what to do with it. Yes this story is filled with miscommunications and misunderstandings and I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath but I loved it!

There are some real, darker issues that these characters have to face and there are a few I just didn’t like, but it made the story real. I don’t have to like all of the characters. I did find humor in this story as well, there are moments of sweetness and honest feeling between these guys. For me, my favorite part of this book is when Bennet reflects back on the person he things Darius is, the conversations they’ve had and sees them in a different light. These two are not perfect, their stubbornness really never leaves them, but in the end they are perfect for each other. I also really enjoyed the side story with Tim and Jamie – I just adored them!

Overall, I thought this was a very enjoyable read! It’s a slow burn push and pull and I was hooked right from the start!

This was not an easy read but it was a very good one, raw and emotional and one heck of a second chance story! I really enjoyed this book and am already looking forward to more of this series!

Jace and Lincoln fell in love when they were teenagers, promised to be together forever but then Lincoln’s band signed a record deal and he was gone. He had his reasons back then but has lived everyday regretting that choice. In a total chance moment, they both end up in the cabins where they spent summers together and now Lincoln is determined to fix his mistakes and win Jace back!

Oh man this was an emotional read, Lincoln has a lot of problems and his way of trying to cope absolutely hurt my heart! I did love the way he came alive again with Jace back in his life, these two are definitely meant to be! I loved Jace right from the beginning, he’s such a great guy. He makes Lincoln work for his forgiveness but you can clearly feel the love these two have for each other! I enjoyed their journey back together, dealing with all the issues that hey are facing! FtM teaser 4

FtM teaser 7

The icy wind bites at my skin, but another swig of whiskey helps to chase the chill away. The air smells like snow. I do a mental calculation and realize it’s only two weeks until Christmas.

When I was a kid, I loved Christmas. This time of year felt so magical and joyful. The smell of cookies baking in the oven, the twinkling lights of the tree, making a wish list of presents you hope Santa will bring.

Another gulp from the bottle clenched in my numb fist. It stopped burning on the way down about a half hour ago, right around the time the far-off city lights started to blur.

There’s no magic now. My kitchen is empty of anyone baking any sort of treats. I can’t remember the last time I bothered to get a tree. They’re not much fun to decorate all on your own. Plus, what’s the point if no one else will be there to enjoy it with you? As for a wish list…there’s only one thing I’d put on that list and it’s something—someone—I had and tossed away too many years ago.

My legs are unsteady under me as I walk to the edge of my balcony to look down at the street below.

Certainly the fall would kill me. But who would care?

I can see the headline now…Rock star Jumps to Death from New York City Apartment.

But would they really care?

My bandmates might’ve cared a few years ago, before everything started falling apart, before we were at each other’s throats constantly.

If only I’d known the name of our band—Downward Spiral— would be so apt when we chose it. Maybe it was a bad omen, or a jinx. Maybe we were just cocky little pricks who were on top of the world and didn’t think anything could ever knock us off.

I wobble as I lean farther over the railing, testing the sturdiness.

I won’t really jump. That’s what I tell myself. That’s what I always tell myself when I get into these dark moods.

I try to lift the bottle to my lips again, but it slips through my fingers. I watch as it plummets downward and then shatters on the sidewalk below.

I teeter again against the railing before taking a step back and reaching into my pocket for a cigarette. I don’t even normally smoke, just when I’m drunk and sad.

I can only imagine what Jace would say if he could see me now.

What a great story about finding your own family and learning what love really means! Caden and Rio have both had a pretty rough time with life and a chance meeting brings these two together when they really need it! And together they learn about overcoming, strength and above all love!

This was a sweet sorry really showcasing hope and love, these two are both older souls than their age and they show that responsibility isn’t a number! I loved these characters and their hearts and their journey to finding happiness together. Life isn’t always easy but having another person supporting you along the way can make all the difference and that is Caden and Rio! I definitely recommend this book!

BL Maxwell grew up in a small town listening to her grandfather spin tales about his childhood. Later she became an avid reader and after a certain vampire series she became obsessed with fanfiction. She soon discovered Slash fanfiction and later discovered the MM genre and was hooked.
Many years later, she decided to take the plunge and write down some of the stories that seem to run through her head late at night when she’s trying to sleep.

sleeping with women was my specialty, an art form even. As the future King of
England I couldn’t be caught sleeping with men. My whole life played out in
front of the paparazzi, and they didn’t miss a thing.
I had a
carefully crafted womanizing persona to maintain. My life came with rules, all
of which I broke when I couldn’t resist a one night stand with the enemy: A
beautiful paparazzo with a heart of gold. He may be the only person who doesn’t
want me for my title, and he can never be anything more than my secret.
But secrets
have a way of coming out and not only will they scare him away, but they’ll
lose me the crown.

I feel like I have to start by saying that I am one of those that is just crazy in love with the Royal Family – it’s my crack and so when I saw this blurb I knew I needed to get my hands on this story and man does J.R. Gray deliver! I loved everything about this story, the names, the situations, the QUEEN! I just loved it!
Louis is set to be the King one day, he understands Royal life and his obligations, which means he needs to marry a woman and produce an offspring. The only problem is that he is gay. He’s hidden it his entire life, especially once his sister Anne started getting in trouble and causing scandals. He knows he needs to remain the heir to protect her. He’s lived a life with the image of a playboy womanizer to avoid finding ‘the one’  but then the Queen informs him he’s out of time, he has to find a wife. A royal trip to Canada with a secret stop in Chicago puts Prince Louis face to face with Xavier, and he can’t take his eyes off him. It was only supposed to be a night of anonymous fun…
Xavier works as a paparazzo to pay the bills, but he’s not the kind of guy to hide in trees and take naked pictures. He’s assigned to follow Prince Louis and Princess Anne around Canada to try to get that shot, but now more than ever he has a conscience about what he is doing. What was one night becomes more as these two cannot stay away from each other. Things definitely heat up between these two while in Canada but both men know there’s an expiration date to whatever they have, but as the time for that ending grows closer neither man wants it end and they have to admit to real feelings.
I loved this journey and was so excited to see how it was going to turn out – and this whole expiration date just tugged at my heart!  These two are so wonderful together and bring out so much good in each other, their wit and hearts and chemistry is just perfection. The end just made my heart soar and holy moly I loved the Queen! I think J.R. Gray did a wonderful job with this story and I can guarantee it will be a book I read more than once!

Don’t move,” he said in a whisper.
“What are
we doing?”
“I want
these for me. I’ll sign whatever you want so you know I’ll keep them to myself,
but I get a different you. One only I see, and I want it on film.”
It was the
most romantic thing someone had ever said to me.
“I want to

“I want a
“Sure.” He
brushed his fingers over the small of my back, sending a spark up my spine.
“Now stand still.”
I indulged
him and stayed in place. He unzipped the bag and slid out his DSLR. He changed
something and then held it up to his face and clicked the shutter. Taking a
look at the screen, he moved ever so slightly to the left and held it to his
face again.
“Look at the

was told. He came close and moved my arm with the drink a fraction and placed
my other arm over the back of the sofa.
Click. Click.
He set the
camera aside and took a seat on the edge of the chair next to me.
“Done with my repayment so soon?”
There was a
light in his eyes. “Not a chance.” He looked me over, his eye stopping on the
top two buttons of my shirt which remained undone. “But you’ll want that photo.
To release for something. You look too alluring and regal to not have it. It
was more for you than for me.”
I was
shocked. “Let me see.”
He picked
up the camera again and leaned closer to me to show me the screen. I looked
like something out of a novel. Mysterious and alluring. I liked it. And I
didn’t like many photos of myself.

He sat
back, keeping the camera in his lap. “How much liberty are you giving me?”
I mirrored
him and looked him over, taking my time with my answer. “Why are you asking?”
crossed through his gaze. “Take off the shirt.”
I obliged
him, slowly working my fingers down the buttons. I slid it off and set it
aside. He looked me over, hungry. My cock stirred at the look. I’d never felt
so desired by another person. He slid forward on the seat and brought the camera
back to his face. I stayed as I was until he told me to move.
“Sit on the
edge of the table,” he said breathless.
I was glad
this was getting to him as much as it was me. It was entirely foreign to give
someone such a thing over me. To allow someone to take these photos. It was
daring and exhilarating. I’d have to be careful or I’d get addicted to the
acting out like some bored teenager.
I sat on
the edge of the table closest to the fire, and he moved back to take a few
shots. I looked up when he hadn’t said anything in a few moments to find him
just watching me. The fire illuminated his scar, and I wanted to kiss the
length of it, from his brow to his lips. I licked my lip and my chest rose as I
inhaled fully, trying to calm myself. He snapped another photo.
“What do
you see?” I asked, unable to stand wondering a moment longer. I wanted to know
how he saw me.
“I see
hunger,” he said as he came closer. “The way you look at me.” The camera hung
at his side as he stalked closer.

I enjoyed this story, it definitely started out fun when these two oh so very different guys meet on a plane! I really did like them both right from the start! There’s Chance, a grad student from Texas and Darren, who was born into wealth and there’s 17 years between them!

These two share a great connection right from the start, chemistry on the plane but once they land, it seems like that may be the end. Chance slips Darren his contact information but he doesn’t use it and isn’t until a chance meeting a few months later for these two to finally act on the attraction that is still there. I loved these two together – they are clearly good for each other, especially Darren, even if they are very different. It’s easy to see how quickly they fall for each other too. It wasn’t supposed to happen, it was supposed to be a quiet, private thing, but these two just can’t deny what they have.

It’s not all easy though, Silvia Violet slips some drama in there to test these two! I think the age difference is handled pretty well between Chance and Darren, both men have their insecurities about it, but these two are too good together! Overall, this was a fun, sweet read with light angst and just makes you smile!

A Chance at Love Teaser 1

Chance touched Darren’s arm again, and Darren felt an honest-to-God jolt of electricity zip through him. “Thank you for distracting me.”

Their gazes met, and Chance licked his lips, a provocative move that made Darren wonder if he really wanted to say goodbye.

“Are you getting a cab or something?” Darren asked. Was he really going to ask Chance to share a ride with him?

Chance shook his head. “A friend is picking me up.”

“Right. That’s easier, I guess.” Darren hated how disappointed he was.

“But…” Chance pulled something from the outer pocket of his bag. “Here’s my card. Give me a call if you want to play cards again or just talk or…something else.”

Darren took the card. Was it already warm from Chance’s touch, or was that his imagination?

Chance didn’t seem like the type to carry business cards around. He glanced down at it and realized the front was simply an artistic rendering of a DNA double helix. He flipped it over and saw Chance’s number and his email.

When he looked back up, Chance had a wary look on his face. “No pressure or anything if you don’t—”

The plane hit the tarmac then, jolting them. Darren hadn’t realized they were so close to the ground.

“I gotta text my friend,” Chance said, pulling out his phone.

Darren forced himself to focus on arranging a Lyft for himself rather than staring at Chance. By the time he finished, they were pulling up to the gate. Darren tucked Chance’s card into his leather iPad case and then slipped the device in the pocket of his briefcase.

For the first time since Darren had been startled by the young man holding a giant container of cheese balls, an awkward silence fell between them. He considered assuring Chance he’d call just to make him feel better, but he’d be lying.

He’d be tempted to, especially on nights when he was lonely. Going out or using an app to find a hookup often seemed like far too much trouble. But if he saw Chance again, it wouldn’t be the same. In the real world, Darren and this exuberant, young grad student had nothing in common.

Are you sure? You talked to him more easily than with anyone else you’ve encountered in months, maybe years.
