BISHOP SULLIVAN
I’ve always known what my future had in store: inheriting the family ranch and having myself a wife and kids to carry on the Sullivan name. Porter Dixon never factored into those plans. We may have spent our teenage years sneaking away to lose ourselves in each other, but he always held me at arm’s length…until the day he up and left without so much as a goodbye.

PORTER DIXON
After everything I’ve lost in my life, it’s important that I keep myself tightly guarded. Especially around Bishop Sullivan. Dad would be rolling in his grave if he found out I was shacking up with a Sullivan, given the bad blood between our families. But eleven years after leaving, I’m back in Laurel Springs with something to prove: I don’t need the Sullivans, nor their land.

Except, damn it all, Bishop has this way of burrowing under my armor. The magnetic draw between us is still too hard to ignore, and what starts out as boss and ranch hand quickly turns into stolen moments and simmering encounters that make it hard to stay angry.

I want to think that love can conquer all and tame my wild heart…but the past isn’t so easy to forget.

CW: References to familial history as well as a side character dealing with alcoholism

4 – 4.5 Stars

I love a good cowboy romance and Riley Hart and Christina Lee definitely deliver with Bishop and Porter! And not only is it cowboys but its second chance and is just full of all the feels! There is a lot to this story and I really liked that it felt like I got to know both Porter and Bishop and got a good understanding of their backstory. It all made for a very well told story and wonderful character and world development.

Bishop and Porter have such a deep connection that goes back to high school years, but they have a very complicated situation. Bishop’s family owns a large thriving ranch that Porter believes should be his, at least part of it, if the stories are true. He certainly believes them and believes that it was Bishop’s grandfather who stole the land from his grandfather and there’s anger and resentment that Porter’s father carried and Porter now carries. He and his mother both now work on the Sullivan’s ranch and while his mother seems happy, Porter definitely carries that resentment. Further complicating everything is the attraction and connection that Porter and Bishop share, along with their secret hookups that no one can know about. When tragedy strikes though and Porter turns to Bishop what he sees sends him running from the Sullivan ranch and not looking back. Years later Porter finds himself back though and looking for a job. He’s one of the best around when it comes to horses and just what the Sullivan ranch needs, but that means facing Bishop again!

There is a good amount of angst in this book, these two love so deeply but have both been hurt so deeply that it takes them some time to heal and open up to each other again. But once they do, wow their love is something so intense and stunning. There is so much passion and emotion between these two and I so just wanted them to find their happiness, they both so deserve it. I really loved seeing the healing they both experience and that allows them both to truly open up and love each other the way they were always meant to.

Overall, I definitely enjoyed this book, even if it made my heart ache for a while it’s totally worth it for the satisfying and heartwarming way it all comes together.  Love Bishop and Porter and their much deserved HEA!
