“Good Morning Malibu, it’s another beautiful day on the west coast! I’m Noely Clark, your host: and I’m in the market for love…”

When the publicity team of the new local restaurant, Going in Blind, began their search for a hot, local celebrity to promote the wildly popular eatery, they couldn’t have found a better person than me.

Outgoing? Check.

Single? Check.

Open to finding love? Check.

I signed up immediately.

A hopeless romantic with an exceedingly demanding schedule, I’ve found it impossible to find the man of my dreams—so Going in Blind seems too good to be true! That’s until they start setting me up on dates—three very different, very attractive, very distinct blind dates—and only one thing is for certain . . .

I’m in big trouble.

Good Morning Malibu,
I’m Noely Clark, and I have a choice to make.
The question is who will I choose; the suit, the rebel, or the jock.

Meghan Quinn does it again with a unique, fun and emotional book that I enjoyed from start to finish! She brilliantly creates these quirky, lovable characters that I fall in love with and want to be friends with and Noely and this group are added to that list. I really enjoyed the different take in this book, not always quite sure where it was headed. Sassy, funny and oh what a journey!
Noely is a strong, confident and hilarious woman and she just wants to find someone to love. When she signs up for this new dating service, Going in Blind she doesn’t expect her boss to find out and want to add her dating journey to the morning show she hosts. She just wants to find that someone. Going in Blind is unique, it matches you with people and also provides a location to meet and get to know each other. She’s still going to give it a shot though, try to find real love!
This book needs to be read and experienced without spoilers so there’s not much more about the actual story that I want to share, but it’s a great adventure. Noely meets three different men – The Suit, The Rebel and The Jock and one of them is a meant to be, but who? I loved this experience, three very different and great men and even at times I couldn’t choose! GAH – it was fun! I will say that I loved how this story turned out, it made me so freaking happy and schmoopy and YES! I am excited to see what Ms. Quinn does with the rest of this series because I am hooked! A great start and a must read!

EXCERPT:

NOELY

“Just state my name?”

“Yeah. Gives us a quick rundown on who you are, what you do, your interests, and what you’re looking for in a man.”

I nod and clear my throat. Sitting tall, my hands resting in my lap, I speak directly into the camera . . .

“Hi, I’m Noely Clark, and I’m one of your Good Morning, Malibu hosts. As you know, I’m single and in the market for love. As a twenty-seven-year-old woman who has had her fair share of rotten relationships, hookups, and dates, I want to try something new. I want to be thrust into a program where my celebrity status isn’t the first thing someone knows about me, where I can be known for who I am as a person rather than how I’m represented on TV.”

“And who is the person you want to be known for?”

Tilting my head to the side, I purse my lips, thinking of my answer. “Just a regular girl who loves Tom Hanks, would do just about anything adventurous, and would rather be seen eating nachos at a hockey game than enjoying a chardonnay during a classic night at the opera.”

“And what are you looking for in a man?”

Taking a deep breath, I look straight into the camera. “Someone who will cuddle on my couch and watch a classic romcom with me. Someone who will challenge me. Someone who is respectful and courteous to others but also has no qualms about shouting at an official while pounding on the glass at a hockey game. We don’t have to be a perfect match, because when is that really the case? But I want our match to be close with a little bit of wiggle room for some give and take, because what’s love without a little bit of compromise, without being able to adapt to your partner and love what they love? It’s the people in our life who mold us, and I’m far from being molded completely.”

Bennett Cole had lived next door to Mitchell “Mac” Campbell, III for eighteen years of his life, in the small town of White Acre. They’d never gotten along, never seen eye to eye, and never understood one another…not that they’d ever cared to try.

But when Bennett’s so-called buddies ditched him at a party in the woods where he was assaulted and left for dead, Bennett pulled through. The emotional scars rendered him too terrified to go back to school and face his “friends” or his attackers. With little choice, his family packed up and left town.

Ten years later—at the request of his mother—Bennett returned to the place he’d grown up and the home he’d once felt safe, to oversee the repairs before his childhood house was sold. The contractor? None other than Mac, the once annoying boy next door, who still lives there in the home his parents gifted him.

Being in such close proximity—working together every day, to repair the Coles’ family home—Bennett and Mac’s contentious relationship goes from bad to worse as their personalities continue to clash. But their heated exchanges may not be as antagonistic as they seem. And when new information is revealed, can the men begin to see each other in a different light?

4 Stars

This was my first book by Morningstar Ashley but definitely not my last! I really enjoyed these characters and their story. I expected it to be heavier than it was but found that I liked the direction of the story. Yes, Mac and Bennett’s journey starts out with a very traumatic experience, and it’s not brushed off, but not the total focus of the story either. I’m also a sucker for an enemies to friends story and these two definitely didn’t get along as teens and it’s fun to watch them snipe and tease their way to a real connection.

We get a backstory on these two along with the building of their new relationship. It’s not just about the physical connection but something more that will change both of these men. Mac definitely made me laugh, I adored his humor and wit and his refusal to give in to Bennett’s sass. Bennett is great in own geeky way too, so smart and a little oblivious at times. I think they make a great couple and loved this journey to happiness for these two oh so meant to be guys! I’m looking forward to reading more from this author for sure!

EXCERPT

Mac was so close he lost his train of thought. So close that Bennett could reach out and grab what he wanted all week, but he was so weak with want, he couldn’t get his mind to cooperate to move his limbs.

“You don’t want a reward for your hard work?”

Mac’s hand came up as if in slow motion. At first, it was just his fingertips, gliding against Bennett’s waist. A shiver rushed through him. Then Mac’s palm touched, warming, moving around his side until it settled at the small of Bennett’s back. Mac slowly pulled him to his chest. He could feel Mac’s heat seep through his own shirt. “There’s nothing you can think of that you’d want?”

Bennett’s breathing picked up. His mind raced. His balls tingled and tightened. He knew Mac had to see the pleading and want through his eyes. Bennett couldn’t hide it, not then, not so close to Mac, feeling his body against his and his breath wisp across his lips as they stared into each other’s eyes. It felt big, like Mac wasn’t just staring into his eyes but into him, searching for something.

Then Mac was closer, so close he could feel the words against his lips. “Because I think you deserve a kiss for being such a good boy. You want that kiss, Princess?”

All Bennett could do is close his eyes and nod. Speaking was beyond his abilities at that point. When did Mac become so sensual, so full of sex, and radiate desire so easily? Bennett loved sex, the tease, the lead up to the physical explosion of pleasure. But Mac brought it to a whole other level. Using words and small innocent touches, turning it dirty and provocative.

“B, open your eyes.”

Bennett listened. As hard as it was to not just stay floating in the place of just feeling, he opened his eyes. What he saw made him moan. The want, the need in Mac’s eyes matched what Bennett felt coursing through his own body. He couldn’t think of anything else, because as lost as he was in the sensations Mac had him feeling with his eyes closed, he was just as lost in the heat that poured off the man now.

“What did you think would happen, B? Coming out here all flustered and angry with just a t-shirt and those cute boxers on?”

At first, Bennett had no idea what he was talking about, but then he remembered. He slept in his ‘Particle Physics Gives me a Hadron’ boxers and had been so lost in his anger that he’d never put on pants.

He swallowed, trying to loosen his tight throat so he could speak, but Mac leaned in, lips touching Bennett’s ear, and the only thing that came out was a whimper. He never whimpered. Fuck.

“Nothing turns me on more than you in full on Princess mode with your geek on full display.” And to prove that, Mac pulled them tighter together with the hand that still sat in the small of his back. Bennett could feel Mac’s hard length pressed against his. The barrier of the worn jeans that Mac had on and Bennett’s boxers was like paper between them.

“I’ve been good this week too. Not kissing your sweet lips, not touching your body, not taking you against any and all surfaces when you were so goddamn sexy with the paint splattered all over you and your shirt sticking to your body, soaked from your sweat. So, maybe I deserve a reward too.”

“Oh, god, yes.”

Mac pulled his face back just enough so that Bennett could look into his eyes again. He had that cocky grin playing at his lips but this time it didn’t annoy Bennett, it lit him on fire.

Mac’s eyes dropped and stared at his lips, making his nerves come alive. He licked his lips and Mac moaned. That sound. God, that sound went straight to the center of all that swirled around them.

Bennett remembered his moans from that blowjob, the sound doing just as much that night as seeing Mac on his knees soft lips wrapped around Bennett’s cock. And hearing it again brought those memories flashing through his mind taking an already heated moment and making it hotter and more.

“Please.” He didn’t know what else to say. It’d felt like they’d stood there frozen forever. Simple touches doing more than any amount of foreplay Bennett had ever experienced.

“I like when you beg me, B.”

Armed with her imagination, wit, and trusty sidekicks in the form of her two crazy kids, devoted dorky husband, big lap dog, and rambunctious cats, Morningstar spends her time reading the books she loves, crafting her own characters, and arguing the merits of hot chocolate over the bitter brew known as coffee (Hot chocolate wins, FYI.).

Morningstar loves graphic design, so much so she returned to school for a degree and regularly tromps her exams and maintains a stellar GPA that occasionally leaves her confounded and pleased. She can while away the hours on new designs, and perfection isn’t too much to hope for when it comes to her art.

Her ideal career would be full-time artist and author, and so far, she hasn’t come up against anything to stop her on her journey. A fierce and devoted friend, Morningstar tries her best to always be kind, always be learning, and always improving. Giving up isn’t an option, and her greatest talent may be in her ability to convince others not to give up, either. One man’s passion, another man’s lies. Can love fix even the darkest of hearts?

Trent Hanson is a figure skating phenom adored by millions around the world. His whole life has been dedicated to the sport he loves even when the sport – and his own family – have turned against him. From the playground to the Olympics to his parent’s living room, Trent has fought against bullies and homophobes to be the out and proud gay man he is. But the constant fighting has left Trent tired, lonely, and skittish. All those fears will have to be shelved though when he’s hired to spend the summer working with the Harrisburg Railers ice hockey team. Who would have guessed that the man fate has decided to pair him off with is Dieter Lehmann, all-around sex god and a man who seems to have everything to prove and doesn’t care who he hurts to get what he wants.

Dieter has spent too many years languishing in the minors and a secret addiction to prescription painkillers means his career is in a downward spiral. His ex is blackmailing him and he’s close to walking away from it all. But when he’s called up in the run for the Stanley Cup to cover injuries he has a taste of what it’s like playing in the NHL and he realizes that a place on the Railers roster is what he wants more than anything. More than listening to his heart, and even more than caring for the infuriating figure skater who gets under his skin. When he crosses the line to get what he wants, he knows he has lost his way. He has to change, but is it too late for both his career and any chance he might have at love?

Jenn Review

3.5 – 4 Stars

I really enjoy this series and this group of hockey players and the addition of Dieter and Trent is great! For me this felt like an opposites attract – both are a bit of a mess story and I totally fell for these two! Both of these guys are dealing with a lot when this story starts and my heart definitely hurt for both of them. When they meet, their connection is immediate but there are a lot of issues they are going to have to work through if their relationship is going to make it.

Dieter has just been signed to the Railer’s hockey team, but he’s got some things he’s hiding, like a knee injury and an addiction to pain pills. He thinks he’s got it under control, but that really isn’t the case. Trent is dealing with the aftermath of his stepfather/manager stealing all his money and gambling it all away. He’s now fighting to keep his mother’s home and his rink and when a reality show opportunity comes his way, he’s quick to accept, until he hears he has to work with hockey players. He’s determined to make enough money to save the house and the rink though so he’ll take on those hockey guys.

I liked these two together right from the start. Both men have their issues and their flaws but they are also good men and so sweet together. Trent knows that loving someone with addiction issues can be painful, but he still gives his heart to Dieter, but he’s fierce and strong too and doesn’t let Dieter get away with anything. Dieter is strong too, and having Trent in his life shows him what he needs to do, for himself, his career and his relationship. I loved that these two work through things together and really don’t hold back. There are still some secrets to be revealed, but they go through it together. I really enjoy this group of characters and their journeys together and am looking forward to what is next for this group!

Ben has Christmas, cats, and mistletoe on his side…. Jason doesn’t stand a chance

For Ben Slater, moving back to Bristol means being closer to his family, living with his best mate, and volunteering at the local animal shelter. But there’s also Jason, his best mate’s eldest brother. Ben’s had a crush on Jason for as long as he can remember, but the eleven-year age gap has always seemed insurmountable.

Jason Armitage works as a vet at his uncle’s practice. He owns a cute cottage on the outskirts of the city, and a loving dog. The one thing missing is someone to share it all with. His brother’s best friend seems a bad choice, but Jason can’t help taking a second look. Ben’s changed a lot since Jason last saw him; both in appearance and attitude. Gone is the shy young boy, replaced with a confident, twenty-four-year-old man.

In the run up to Christmas, the festive period gives Ben the ideal opportunity to show Jason what he has to offer. But concerns for his brother’s feelings hold Jason back. If they have any chance of making this work, Ben must convince Jason that he’s old enough to know what he wants, and Jason needs to believe that a relationship with his brother’s best friend won’t ruin their friendship.

Jenn Review

3.5 – 4 Stars

Not Just for Christmas is a sweet, feel-good holiday romance with cute pets, a childhood crush, some well placed mistletoe and a slow burn HEA! Ben has had a crush on his best friend Liam’s brother Jason since they were kids, but Jason is eleven years older and always saw Ben and Liam as kids. Well, now Ben is 24 and moving back to his hometown and living with Liam. He knows he’ll run into Jason again, but this time he hopes he seems him for the man he’s grown up to be.

I really felt like I got to know both Ben and Jason, and man these two are adorably awkward together. They are both attracted to each other but are hesitant to act on that attraction since there are friendships and families involved. As the holidays approach though, and these two spend some more time together, and thanks to that sneaky mistletoe, Ben finally makes his move.

I definitely enjoyed this story, it’s got a slow burn and low angst, but I really liked Ben and Jason and was totally rooting for them. These guys definitely think before they leap, but it really does all come together nicely. This is exactly the kind of story that gets me a holiday happy mood!

Excerpt

Ben tried not to look, but inevitably his gaze was drawn to Jason still sat on the sofa. He stood as Pete stepped back, and Ben got a proper look at him. Ben wasn’t the only one who’d changed a little over the past couple of years. The last time he’d seen Jason, his hair had been short, like an army cut, and he’d had a beard. He’d looked hot then, but now…. Ben had to forcibly shut his mouth so he didn’t gape.

Jason’s thick dark hair, still shaved at the sides, was now a good couple of inches longer on top. And he was clean shaven. Ben kind of missed the beard, but without it Jason looked much younger, and his strong jawline was a thing of beauty. He looked thinner, too. Ben frowned because Jason ate like a horse and had always been bulkier than his brothers. That thought somehow made its way out of Ben’s mouth.

“Have you lost weight?”

Jason laughed softly, one hand immediately going to his stomach. He patted his belly and sighed. “God don’t you start. Mum’s already been on at me about not eating properly.” He pulled Ben in for a quick hug. “It’s good to see you, even if you do put the rest of us to shame.”

Oh God, that voice. As smooth and deep as Ben remembered.

Blog Tour Review: Pulled Under by Lisa Renee Jones

Today I’m excited to share my review for Pulled Under by Lisa Renee Jones! It’s an action packed, romantic suspense book with a sexy alpha and sassy and strong female, definitely a must read!

Pulled Under Cover

ABOUT

A new sexy standalone from Lisa Renee Jones…

He is blond, tattooed, and dangerous. She’s as beautiful as she is mysterious and could be his destruction…

Asher wasn’t always a member of the elite Walker Security team, he was a billionaire’s son, who rebelled against his father’s controlling hand, and ended up in New York City’s underground of drugs, rock n roll, and danger. But that is long behind him, and while his tattoos and long blond hair remain, he’s now a chameleon, far more comfortable in a suit and tie than a leather jacket.

Or so he likes to tell himself.

But now Walker Security needs him back inside the underground club scene for a police case they’re working. Women are dying, murdered, and the clock is ticking until another victim is claimed. When Asher is pulled back into this toxic world he meets Sierra, who is as beautiful as she is mysterious. A woman who calls to a darker side of him, long suppressed, unleashing it in what becomes wicked hot passion and obsession. But Sierra has a secret, one that leads her, and Asher, to a dangerous place, and game, with dangerous players, and the game is about life or death.

Jenn Review

5 Stars

Pulled Under, what a perfect title! I felt like this book totally consumed me, between the hot chemistry between Sierra and Asher, the action, the suspense, it just had it all! I love Lisa Renee Jones’s books and this is one of my favorites!

Asher is working under cover as a bartender, trying to catch a serial killer. Sierra is a woman on the run, desperately trying to hide and a job in a bar seems like a place to make some money. She doesn’t expect Asher though, or their connection and chemistry and when he discovers she has secrets he wants to help and for the first time might actually be able to. See, Sierra isn’t running from an abusive husband, no she’s running from an abusive husband who is trying to kill her and he just so happens to be one of the richest and most connected men in the country. Asher has connections though too and Walker Security has his back and he’s not going to let anyone get to Sierra again.

I loved this book and I could not put it down. It was exciting and intense but also loving and passionate too, Asher and Sierra have chemistry right from the start. I really enjoyed the investigation side of it as well, getting into the details of the serial killer crimes as well as the hunt for Sierra’s husband. The characters are great, I feel like I really know these people and their stories are exciting and still loving. Action packed and fun, this is definitely a favorite for me and I’m already looking forward to the next book in this series.

“You want more now, and yet you don’t want it enough to make it end. And I already don’t want it to end, Sierra.”
She leans into me, her head resting on my shoulder, emotion that isn’t pleasure radiating off of her and crashing into me. I cup her face and tilt her chin up, my thumb stroking her cheek. “What are you thinking?”
“Nothing. Everything. Can you kiss me again already?”
“Where, Sierra?”
“Where?”
“Where do you want me to kiss you? Tell me.”
“Everywhere.” She pushes to her toes, and her lips find mine, looking for an escape, trying to drive her demons away.
I want to demand her answer, make her tell me where she wants my mouth, but I feel her desperation, her need to escape whatever is in her head. And so, I press my lips to hers, I kiss her mouth, drinking her in, and I don’t taste him this time. I taste her. I taste us. I taste need and hunger and passion. “I want you naked,” I say, my hands sliding inside her jeans and panties. “In every possible way, Sierra.”
“I’m pretty sure I’m already there, and it’s terrifying.” She flattens her hand on my chest. “If you turn into an asshole, I swear—”
“You can punish me,” I promise, “and I’m still willing to offer suggestions.”
“If you turn into an asshole after I trusted you,” she says. “I won’t need suggestions, Mr. Ex-Navy SEAL who won’t be able to hide from my wrath.”
Fuck, I’m crazy about this woman. “Good thing I’m not going to turn into an asshole. I want you naked,” I repeat, and this time, I make it happen. I lower myself to one knee and take her jeans and panties with me. My arm wraps her waist and I lift her, dragging her clothing away, and setting her back down. My hands settle on her hips then and I look up at her. She stares down at me, the simmering look in her eyes all about arousal, submission. And I want that from her and not because it’s some sex game, of which I could play and play well.
I press my lips to her belly and just that easily she trembles, and it only makes me want more. Everything is more with her.  I drag my mouth lower and lower…

No, I would not miss the infuriating things Zeb says and does.
Not one bit.
Even if he is hot, in a primitive sort of way.
He confuses me, going from concerned and sweet, to hot, to cold as ice.
I can’t get involved anyway—not with the wounds of the last time literally still healing—and he’s busy trying to hold onto a dying way of life.

Aden Lowe delivers another fun, exciting story with Shine On! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started, but I really enjoyed this story from start to finish! The story is entertaining and different and these characters – oh they are larger than life! We’ve got true hillbillies, a nurse from the city and a Mexican cartel, yeah definitely entertaining for sure.

Zeb is the oldest in his family, he takes responsibility for them. With three younger brothers and a younger sister, all with names starting with Z, it’s a family thing, he’s got his hands full. His youngest brother is known for bringing trouble when he comes home and this time is no different but when his sister brings home her best friend from the city the trouble just multiplies. Gabriella works as an ER nurse, is engaged and thinks she’s got a good thing going. After working extra shifts she comes home to find her fiance in a rage where he turns to violence, beating Gabriella. She calls the only person she can think of and when Zipporah shows up she promises to keep her safe. Gabriella quickly learns that her fiance isn’t who she thought he was, but also maybe Zeb, this hillbilly alpha may not be what she first thought either.

This family has quite the adventure, Zeb is determined to keep his family and Gabriella safe, no matter what that means. He gave up on women and relationships as a teenager but Gabriella makes him feel again, and it’s something he can’t deny. These two are funny together, both stubborn and really from different worlds, but their connection is undeniable. Even though they really shouldn’t, these two fall for each other and it’s just so sweet. I love the mix of action and romance and am hoping we get to see these two again. I’m really looking forward to more in this series, these quirky characters have definitely caught my attention and my heart!

“Let me help.” Startled, she stiffened, then let her arms go around my neck. “I’m Zeb, by the way.” Her unruly hair tickled my neck and chest, reminding me I hadn’t bothered with a shirt.

“Gabriella. I’m okay to walk.”

“And I’m okay to carry you.”

A sweet romance by Chris Ethan, author of The Guy With The Suitcase.

Jingle Spell is a cute holiday read with featuring two sweet men looking to find happiness. Davey hates Christmas, all the festivities, decorations, people all over the place and just all of it. It doesn’t help that he was just dumped. He meets Avery while at work one day and thanks to a dating ap, Avery has tracked him down. Davey is determined to not to give his heart away so easily, but sweet Avery works his way in quicker than Davey thought possible. The two start spending time together, falling for each other but when Avery’s ex shows up it will test what they really have together. Davey is pretty sure that’s just his luck though.
These two are just adorable together, Avery easily breaking through Davey’s gruff exterior. Davey definitely hasn’t had an easy life and learning more about him broke my heart, he’s gone through some rough stuff for such a young man. He’s sure that he’s not good enough and that everyone will leave him eventually, but Avery seems to be testing that. He pays attention to him, listens to his stories and really seems to care. I loved that about Avery, just steady and wonderful and totally swoon-worthy! I liked these two together, they are a couple you can definitely root for, especially around the holidays.
This was a sweet, quick read without a lot of drama or angst, just a good paced story about two men who deserve love. It’s a story that brings out the magic of Christmas and romance and I enjoyed the sweetness. Chris Ethan does a good job of bringing these two together and getting them to their happy.

Chris Ethan is a book whore. He enjoys selling his feelings for money and other pleasures and is blatantly unashamed to do so for as long as he breathes. Chris Ethan is also a persona for Rhys Ethan, author of fantasy and sci-fi. He uses Chris Ethan to share stories of adult queer romance with those who need it. Before you delve into his books however, be warned. He likes putting his characters through shitstorms and hates anything conventional. But then there’s that darned happy-ever-after. Andrew Grey delivers another touching, heart felt story that embraces a character with a disability that really doesn’t define the person or the relationship. I love his ability to empower characters and bring love to everyone and this book is another great example of that storytelling. Heart Unheard is the story of Brent and Scott, two co-workers with crazy chemistry but both a little afraid of acting on it since they work together. When Scott is in an accident that changes his life, it’s time for Brent to step up and be the man Scott really needs.

I loved these two – right from the start – their adorable flirting got my attention right from the start. These two have undeniable chemistry but age and work seem to keep them apart, that is until Scott is in an accident that leaves him deaf. Brent doesn’t know how to react other than to be there for Scott and show him what he should have all along, that he really does matter to him. Their budding relationship has challenges, Scott is trying to come to terms with his new life and Brent wants to make his real feelings known. But these two work it out. And oh what a journey to that point!

Scott struggles for sure, what a shock to have to adapt to, the silence, but he does and he does it with strength. He is determined to take his life back and he’s finding he’s determined to do it with Brent. Brent wants his real feelings to be known, not just pity, but his deep love for Scott. I loved seeing these two navigate through their challenges as well as the sweet moments to find that love together. This is a touching story, one that went straight to the feels and will stay with me. It’s not about the ability or disability but the love and finding the way through the challenges life can throw at you. Heart Unheard is another great example of why Andrew Grey is a must read for me!

Scott was in a small room, the bed surrounded by monitors with a number of tubes and cords hooked to him. His usually robust cheeks were sallow, his normally intense eyes closed, his pouty lips pale.

“Please remain quiet.”

“Of course,” Brent said as he pulled forward the small chair and sat next to the bed. He didn’t ask her a bunch of questions about how he was doing because Brent knew she couldn’t really tell him anything without specific written permission.

The nurse checked Scott over and left the room.

“Hey, Scott. It’s Brent. I wanted to stop by and see you.” He blinked as Scott’s chest slowly rose and fell. “I read somewhere that people can sometimes hear things when they’re out like this. So I hope you get better.” He turned to make sure no one was around to hear him, then leaned closer. “I should have told you how I felt.” He sniffed and took one of the tissues from the box on the tray table. He reached for Scott’s hand and slid their fingers together. Brent probably didn’t have a right to do that, but he wanted Scott to know he was there.

To his surprise, Scott’s fingers squeezed his just a little. At first, he wasn’t sure it was real, but Scott did it again. Brent gently rubbed the back of his hand but received no further movement in response.

“Are you Brent?” a man who had to be Scott’s dad asked. He looked so much like him, only an older, more weathered, and very worried version, with touches of gray in his hair.

“Yes,” Brent whispered, setting Scott’s hand back on the blankets, his cheeks heating. “I was just trying to make a connection with him. I think he might have squeezed my hand a little.” He wondered what Scott’s dad—and then his mom as she followed him inside—must be thinking with him holding Scott’s hand.

“He did that last night before we left. It’s the only indication that we’ve had that he’s there and knows we’re here.” Scott’s mother approached, and Brent stood to give her the chair. She sat, gently stroking Scott’s hand. “Is there something between you and my son?” She lifted her gaze, and it was like she was looking deep into his soul. It was immediately evident where Scott got his amazing eyes, even if hers were red and definitely filled with concern. “I heard what you were saying to him before we came in.”

“Don’t mind Carolyn. She has bat-like hearing sometimes.” Reggie stepped to the other side of the bed, looking at Scott. If Brent were to hazard a guess, Reggie was willing his son to wake up. The worry and sheer willpower were written on the lines of his furrowed brow.

“Reggie,” she said gently, then turned to Brent. “Scott talked about you all the time. I think he may have a crush on you.” She looked him over. “I can see why, but aren’t you a little old for him?”

Brent nodded. “That’s why nothing ever happened.” He turned back to Scott, not believing he was having this conversation. “I’m his manager and….” There were so many reasons why he’d never said anything to Scott, though all of them seemed too stupid now. Scott lay on the bed, largely unmoving, and none of Brent’s reasons mattered. All that did matter was that Scott would recover and get better again.

“I see,” she said, as though there were some great meaning behind Brent’s words. “He told me about the time the oil gun sprang a leak and he got sprayed. You got the oil shut off and him out of there and cleaned off so fast, before it could get in his eyes.”

“He told you that?” Brent closed his eyes, stifling a groan, as his cheeks had to be turning beet red. He’d cleaned Scott off and had damn near kissed him just because he was relieved Scott was all right. Just as he’d gotten close, Scott had opened his eyes and their gazes had met, but Brent had backed away. His cowardice had taken over the way it usually did.

Carolyn nodded. “He said you were gentle and made sure he was okay before everything else. Then you apparently took apart the equipment, fixed it, and made sure that didn’t happen again.” She smiled. “Scott tells us stories about work all the time, and many of them featured you.”

What was he supposed to say to that? Brent wanted to hide and lick his wounds somewhere. It seemed that the teasing and flirting Scott had done was more than just playing. Brent had never been sure, but now he knew. Scott had cared and might have been truly interested, but now it might be too late.

“That’s so nice to know.” Brent couldn’t help looking at Scott and wondering what might have been if he had just had the guts.

Oh it is so much fun to get to look in on characters you love, spend a little time catching up them and their family and that is exactly what R.J. Scott has given readers. Jack and Riley are still very much in love and committed to each other and this story takes place over time and really gives a look at how life played out for this couple.

I loved reading this, seeing Jack and Riley still making it work and loving each other. I loved getting to see Hayley grow up and become such an incredible woman and loved that while this story wasn’t angsty at all, there were some real life challenges for this family. If you’ve read and loved this series this book is just perfection and will absolutely leave your heart happy, it sure did mine! Thank you R.J. Scott for this wonderful, heartwarming gift!

Excerpt

Chapter One

Riley needed to apologize. Right now.

He’d fucked up big time, and he should have seen it coming, because everything he did went in cycles. He and Jack hadn’t argued in so long and maybe the tension that had been building inside Riley had needed an outlet; he’d provoked the argument. He’d pushed and prodded and sulked and shoved at Jack until Jack had snapped.

Not in loud, shouting temper, or anything like what Riley deserved. No, Jack had gone deathly quiet.

Absolutely. Utterly. Quiet.

Riley shouted at him, got everything out of his system, felt the weight of it all lessen by throwing it at Jack and what had happened? He’d stood there at first, confused, and then steadily calmer. Weirdly calmer.

They argued; no normal marriage went without arguments over things as important as the kids and as trivial as picking up wet towels. But they resolved things, Jack/Riley was a unit that worked. They sometimes bickered and teased, they shouted rarely, and on the odd occasion there would be sulking. Mostly from Riley. He considered it as thinking time but Jack just called him on his sulking like a child.

Their arguments always ended in love; talking, kissing, complete forgiveness that could only come when two people understood and loved each other.

This morning though, he’d made Connor cry, Lexie scowl, and Max hide under the table with Toby. Jack hadn’t even stayed for that. The crying, scowling and hiding had happened after he’d left.

“Why are you shouting at Pappa!” Connor shouted back at Riley. “Stop shouting.” Then he’d started to cry, and Riley’s heart had broken into a million pieces. He’d sat between a crying Connor, and a sullen, angry Lexie and tried to explain that he had a bad headache and he didn’t mean to shout. For headache, read migraine, tight painful migraine that blurred his vision and made him feel sick. He’d taken meds and the sharp edges of the glass in his head were easing, but he couldn’t think straight. Connor stopped crying.

“You were so mean,” Lexie summarized, but she did give Riley a hug and kiss him on the forehead to make it all better.

Max on the other hand, while not angry with Riley and the shouting, was still under the kitchen table with Toby. The black lab, Riley’s black lab, was between Max and Riley in a protective furry wall.

“It’s okay Tobes, I got this,” Riley tried to fold all six-four of himself under the wood. He got caught on a bench, his neck burned, his stomach was in knots, but nothing was going to stop him from getting to Max. Toby did eventually move to one side but not too far. Toby may well have been Riley’s dog at the start, but he and Max were inseparable now.

“Max, buddy?” he began, and Max at least looked up at him for a split second. “You okay?”

“M’okay,” Max said. “You’re noisy.”

At least he wasn’t rocking, or stimming. He was just sitting with his dog in his favorite place under the kitchen table.

“Is everything okay?” Carol said from behind him. He scrambled back and brushed himself off. “Riley?”

“I shouted,” Riley explained simply.

“At the kids?” Carol asked, aghast, as if that was the ultimate sin in her eyes. Which, to be fair, it was in Riley’s as well. He and Jack didn’t shout, they cajoled, and bargained, and ran a happy house. Most of the time, anyway. Just not this morning.

“No, at Jack.”

“Is Max okay?” she peered under the table and smiled at Max. He adored her, the kids all loved their nanny, probably quite a bit more than they loved their dad today.

“He seems fine.” Riley peered out of the window at where Jack had gone. The damage had been done, but Connie and Lexie were chatting to each other, Max was with Carol and he needed to go and make things right with Jack.

“I think we’re okay in here,” Carol said, “Go find Jack.”

Riley shot her a grateful glance, and as he left the kitchen he heard Lexie telling Carol that her Pappa had a headache and that she’d kissed it better. When he closed the door it was just him and the ranch and finding Jack. It didn’t take him long; he was outside their barn, looking up at the siding, with his feet apart and his arms crossed over his chest.

Riley inhaled the fresh morning air and pulled back his shoulders. He could do this; he could ignore the pain in his head now it had lessened a little, he could push back the nausea, and he could go and apologize to Jack for being a fucking idiot.

“I’m sorry,” he murmured, coming to a stop next to Jack, only a few inches separating their arms. Jack didn’t move.

“It’s okay.” Although it didn’t sound okay at all. Okay was one of those words that meant nothing in the context of an argument, it was a word that plastered over cracks in a relationship. Okay was quiet and tight-lipped silences and Riley recalled okay from when he was a kid.

He hated okay.

“It’s not okay, I have a headache and I didn’t mean any of what I said.”

“You didn’t mean to say that life would be easier if you didn’t have to listen to me?” Jack’s voice was low and serious, and Riley winced.

“You were saying too much, and I couldn’t think.”

Their discussion had started in the bedroom.

“I asked if you’d made an appointment to see someone about the headaches.”

“I know—”

“And why you were limping again—”

“Jack—”

“And why you weren’t sleeping, and why you spent so much time at the office, and why the fuck have we not used the barn in over a month?”

The barn wasn’t just the barn, it was a euphemism for sex. They hadn’t been together in a month, over a month now. How did Riley explain that he’d been at the office, sometimes with the blinds shut, closing out the light, sleeping? How did he explain he didn’t want to see a doctor because the headaches scared him? And how the hell did he tell Jack he was limping because every single one of his muscles hurt, because he was tired, because it was all too much?

“Jack, I’m sorry.”

“You’re not, Riley, because you won’t listen to me.” Jack pointed at the barn. “I’m thinking we turn this into a games room for the kids.”

Riley gripped Jack’s arm. “No, what the hell?” His tension fled and in its place was panic. This was their space. Sometimes they came out here to talk, to hide away from the world, but it was also the one place they had the hottest sex he’d ever experienced. He wanted that again, but he was so tired, every time he turned over in bed his neck hurt, and his head pounded, and his leg ached, and he was fucking tired of it all. “Jack, I’m sorry, don’t…”

Jack turned to face him, and his expression wasn’t angry. “Either you go to the doctor, right here, right now, or I start clearing the place for a pool table.” He looked deadly serious, and Riley couldn’t tell if this was an empty threat. Then Jack softened, cradled his face and pressed a kiss to his forehead. “Riley, please.”

Just those two words pierced the fear in Riley, he couldn’t stop the pain, or the threat of being sick, or not sleeping, but whatever was wrong, Jack would be there for him.

“I’m scared,” Riley murmured.

Jack gathered him close. “You think I’m not?”

“Please don’t,” Riley said against Jack’s neck. His words sounded slurred and fear made him sway. What the hell? “Please don’t let me chase you away.”

“I won’t.”

And that was the last thing he heard as his world went to black.

Gabe’s friend, Jordan, sets up the pair on a date. But when Gabe chatters on about his plans for outing Santa, Mack goes cold, and their first meeting becomes an epic fail.

As Gabe researches the children’s home, he learns that Mack has secrets a guy famous for being a brute wouldn’t want the world to know. Can Gabe find his holiday spirit, write a killer article, win the heart of a surly giant, and give everyone a very merry Christmas?

I feel like I can count on Eli Easton to deliver a holiday story that will totally get me in the spirit and just warm my heart and she has done it again this year! I really enjoyed this sweet, fun read from start to finish! Mack and Gabe are two great college guys, and while it’s a slow start to their relationship, there’s definitely a connection between these two and I loved how their story unfolded.
Gabe is a sassy journalism student who has received his first assignment at the newspaper where he is an intern, and he also needs something for his investigative journalism class so he has plans to turn a Christmas puff piece into something more. Then he meets college wrestler Mack, who at 6’10” is a mountain of a man and definitely captures Gabe’s attention. It definitely seems like there is something between these two but when Gabe reveals his plans for the Christmas story, that connection is tested. Gabe learns more about Mack and his life he learns he may need to rethink his approach if he wants to keep Mack around and gain his trust.
There’s a slow burn with these two but it’s completely adorable! Gabe is a go-getter for sure but Mack is reserved and quiet and he blushes. Yes, this mountain blushes! I really loved seeing Mack open up to Gabe and let himself go with him. These two are just perfect for each other! This book really is the perfect feel-good read to get in the holiday spirit, complete with Santa, wonderful and funny kids and these two sweet men falling in love. Once again, Ms. Easton delivers a story that made my heart so very happy!
