New Review: Hello Forever Sarina Bowen

34223444

A SINGLE BASKETBALL GAME CHANGES EVERYTHING…

When they were only teenagers, Axel and Caxton were caught making out in the woods at church camp. And afterward, Cax had disappeared from all the youth group activities.

Six years later, Axel is astonished to spot his first love’s face in the crowd of a college basketball game he’s watching on TV—at a school which has just offered him a job. It’s a thousand miles away, in a tiny rural town. But suddenly, he can’t wait to get there.

Cax can’t believe his eyes when Axel appears in the same Massachusetts town where he now lives. And he’s still just as drawn to Axel as ever. But he can’t let himself go there again, because loving Axel will mean giving up everything else he holds dear.

Both men have so much to lose. But as far as their love is concerned, it’s Hello Forever.

Hello Forever is a stand-alone novel with no cliffhangers. Readers of Goodbye Paradise will get to check in on Caleb and Josh and their clan

Sarina Bowen delivers another fantastic read! I’ve been so excited about this book, I loved Goodbye Paradise and Ms. Bowen certainly delivered. I really love second chance love stories and this one is excellent! This book definitely can be read as a stand-alone but I would recommend Goodbye Paradise as a wonderful book too plus we get to see a bit of Josh and Caleb in this book.

Axel and Cax were friends when they were young but after getting caught together at a church camp Cax disappears from Axel’s life and it isn’t until years later while watching a college basketball game online that Axel sees him again, and it changes everything.

I loved both Cax and Axel right from the start, both of these characters are just so easy to love. Cax is doing what he always does, hiding himself away and trying to help raise his brothers and protect them from their awful, hateful father. There is something so very special about the way these two re-connect! They have a great connection, despite their years apart, you can just feel that these two are meant to be together. It’s not that easy though, there are definitely challenges for these two – mainly Cax’s father. He’s afraid of what will happen if his father finds out he’s gay and what would happen to his brothers.

This was an emotional read and I felt for what Axel and Cax went through and the pain caused by his father. But there is such wonderful love in this story as well, between Axel and Cax, Axel’s amazing mom and of course Josh and Caleb too. I loved this journey from start to finish and in the end my heart was so very happy! For me, Sarina Bowen has become one of those authors that when I see her name I know I’m going to read that book! I’m really hoping that we get a Jason book next!!

I have to start by saying this book wasn’t really what I expected, going into it I thought it would be pretty dark and sad and while it had those moments, for me it felt more like a story of healing and hope and I truly enjoyed it! There are definitely tough moments, they will hurt, but the overall feeling was healing and a wonderful journey of love and finding oneself. I think Nicky James does a wonderful job with Soren’s story, and the way it all came together made my heart incredibly happy!
Soren works in a club as a bartender, dancer and quite often is required to provide sexual services to the clubs VIPs. He’s only 22 and has been working in that club for years. He’s had enough though, he’s miserable and wants out, but he doesn’t see a way out. His life is controlled by the club owner Donny (total scum bag). One night he meets Remy, a magazine editor who likes order, organization and cleanliness. These two should not click, but they do and when Remy realizes what is happening to Soren he promises to help him get out and get his life together.
These two start out building a friendship, one that both men really need and as that develops and trust begins to form they are put to the test and that is when real feelings start to form. These two are so wonderful for each other, Soren discovers what is like to have support and trust and someone who genuinely cares about him, and for Remy, Soren is that person to test him, to challenge him and his OCD habits. These two together made me smile and made me feel; the love, the passion and the hope.
I felt like this story wasn’t so much about Soren’s initial job and what he had to go through, but more about his journey out of it and building a life with Remy. Both of these characters are just absolutely beautiful, Soren broken inside but wanting more and Remy understanding love and family but lonely and wanting to care for Soren. Their romance builds and becomes so solid that you just know these two are meant to be. I thought this was a touching, sweet story that totally took me by surprise. There is some darkness, but then it’s all about the light. This definitely will not be my last Nicky James read!

Nicky James lives in the small town of Petrolia, Ontario, Canada. She is mother to a wonderful teenage boy and wife to a truly supportive and understanding husband who, thankfully, doesn’t think her crazy.

Nicky has always had two profound dreams in life; to fall back hundreds of years in time and live in a simpler world and to write novels. Since only one of those dreams was a possibility, she decided to make the other come alive on paper.
Nicky writes MM romance books in a variety of styles including contemporary, medieval, fantasy, and historical.

“I learned a long time ago that nothing is free, not even help.” ~ Blaze

Almost getting killed in a gay bashing should have been one of the worst moments of my life, but with everything I’ve been through, it was just another day, except for the gorgeous man who stepped in to save me. There is something about Galen that draws me in and makes me want know him, and the more time I spend with him, the more I feel free to be myself. Galen doesn’t seem to know what he wants, but I’m a man who stays true to himself, and Galen seems to be someone worth taking a chance on.

“Then you happened and all you have to do is touch me and I lose myself.” ~ Galen

I never thought I’d stumble on an attempted murder, but that’s exactly what happened one night while I was trying to get home. After chasing away the assailants and helping the enigmatic young victim home I tried to put the incident out of my mind, but I couldn’t get him out of my head. I might not have ever thought about being with a man before, but the more time I spend with Blaze, the more I learn about who I really am. Blaze has scars that run deep, but as he opens up to me I find myself questioning everything I thought I wanted, and wondering if I’m a good enough man to give him what he needs.

*This is Book 1 of The Den Boys series, but can be read as a standalone – no cliffhangers.

4 Stars

This is one of those stories that is sweet, and HOT and will just make your heart happy! Blaze and Galen couldn’t be more different and yet once they meet, despite the circumstances, they couldn’t be more perfect for each other. These two have an immediate connection, both emotionally and physically (I mean, they seriously cannot keep their hands off each other). I really enjoyed their story as these two men prove their love for each other!

Blaze and Galen meet when Blaze is the victim of a hate crime and Galen comes to his rescue, he brings him home and tries to make sure he’s ok. The two part ways, but neither man can get the other out of their mind.

I really loved the relationship that these two built, it was touching and sweet all done without excess drama or angst. It really was about how these two men healed each other and found happiness together. They are definitely tested, there are outside issues and internal, insecurities that creep in the end these two really do work together to find happiness. Blaze struggles with his harsh past and the scars it’s left and Galen comes from a cold upbringing without love but together they prove how strong, amazing and beautiful love really is!

I definitely enjoyed this story from start to finish and am already looking forward to the next in this series!

The Sun Keeps Rising

“Shit!”

Micky cursed loudly and squinted through the morning glare to read the alarm clock that was obviously having trouble performing its one and only basic function. He threw off his duvet and jumped out of bed, his foot landing on a plastic wind-up toy penguin discarded on the floor. The penguin openly mocked him by tossing itself into a noisy backflip.

“Fuck!”

Micky cursed again, bending down to pick up the toy and throw it savagely against the wall. It shattered into a million pieces and Micky felt instantly guilty.

“Flynn!” he yelled, hopping over to his bedroom door and yanking it open. Treading more carefully to the bathroom opposite, he rubbed his eyes before coming face-to-face with himself in the mirror above the sink.

He looked like shit. No change there. The three hours of almost sleep he’d gotten obviously hadn’t done anything to improve on his disheveled appearance. He ran a hand over the stubble on his chin. He needed to shave but now didn’t have the time. Micky turned on the tap, dunked his head under the cold stream and squeezed paste onto his toothbrush.

“Flynn!” he shouted again, louder this time, before shoving the toothbrush into his gob and brushing vigorously. The minty taste did nothing for his dry mouth.

“Yes, Micky,” came a quiet little voice from the bathroom doorway.

Still holding the toothbrush between his lips, foam dripping out from the side of his mouth, Micky turned.

“We’re late,” he said, trying to suck the minty drool back up and stop it escaping from the corners.

“I’m dressed,” Flynn replied with a huge proud smile.

Flynn stood in the doorway, clutching another wind-up plastic toy. He kept spinning the thing around, setting off an ear-piercing buzz as it unwound at double speed. He appeared so small and fragile. More like a five-year-old than his actual eight years. He’d gotten dressed. Sort of. He’d managed to pull on his gray school trousers over his pajama bottoms and his army-green jumper clung inside out. No socks, and his mousy-brown curls stuck out from his head in all directions.

Micky’s heart melted a little at the sight.

“Well done, Flynn.” Micky finished brushing his teeth, spat down the plughole and cupped a handful of water into his mouth to rinse. Turning back to his brother, Micky then crouched in front of him. “But how about we try taking the pajamas off?”

Flynn looked down, waggling his toes, and back up at his big brother. “Why?” he asked, confused. “I put them back on later.”

Micky laughed. The kid had a point.

“Come on.” Micky took hold of Flynn’s hand to walk him back into the small box room. It had twin beds, pushed up against opposite sides. One had used to belong to Micky before he’d moved into the master bedroom.

“What time did you get up today?” Micky asked, dragging Flynn’s jumper over his head.

“Five five two,” Flynn replied.

He wound up the blasted plastic toy again and Micky breathed in deeply, preventing his immediate instinctive reaction to take the thing and smash it against the wall in comradeship with its penguin mate.

“That’s early,” Micky said, pulling off Flynn’s pajama top then rooting around in the drawer for his brother’s school polo shirt. He found it scrunched at the bottom and helped Flynn squirm into it while trying to smooth out the creases.

“For what?” Flynn asked, holding on to Micky’s shoulder as he knelt and stepped out of his trousers.

“Everything,” Micky replied with a yawn.

“Daddy didn’t say it was.”

Micky looked into Flynn’s blue eyes. The white starburst pattern within them gave him the feeling of being hypnotized. Micky blinked.

“Dad’s not here, Flynn,” Micky said slowly, standing to inspect his now school-uniform-clad little brother.

“Yes, he is.” Flynn smiled widely, his plastic toy buzzing in his hands.

Micky stared down at for a brief moment, then spun around and ran full pelt down the stairs and into the living room. The place was dark and dank, stinking of booze and fags with beer cans littering the floor.

Micky yanked open the curtains to witness the disgusting figure sprawled on the sofa. Tatty stonewashed denim jeans bagged around his knees and the T-shirt he wore, once white in color, was stained yellow with patches of Micky didn’t want to know what. His greasy, graying hair hung around his face like rats’ tails. He was snoring and every breath out from his wide-open mouth filled the room with a putrid stench.

Micky kicked at the arm dangling off the sofa. The man grumbled but didn’t move. Micky kicked him again, more fiercely. Opening one eye, the brute belched as he squinted through the glaring sunlight.

“Get the fuck out,” Micky demanded.

The laughter that followed made Micky’s skin crawl, along with the irritating scratching of fingernails across the man’s chest. The shirt rubbed against the curly dark hairs scattering his fat body and made the unbearable scraping of nails down a chalk board.

“Now,” Micky growled.

The grunted response wasn’t something Micky could decipher, nor did he care to. Micky watched with contempt as he rolled off the sofa and landed on the floor with a thump. Several beer cans crunched under his heavy frame and he rolled again to push up on to all fours. Grunting once more, he heaved himself to stand. He tripped on his own feet and clutched at the wall. Micky clenched his fists at the ready as the second loud belch blasted out and Micky had to turn away from the oncoming stink.

“Money,” he demanded, holding out a hand.

“Get fucked,” Micky spat back.

“Then I take his.”

He staggered over to the fireplace mantelpiece and made a grab for the handmade clay moneybox shaped like a car. Micky wrapped firm fingers around his wrist and squeezed tightly.

“Over my dead body.” Micky gritted his teeth. Clutching the wrist harder, he used his other hand to root around in the dirty jeans pocket and yanked out a key. Shaking his head, Micky shoved him away. “Now leave, before I fucking kill you.”

“Micky?” Flynn’s delicate little voice squeaked from the living room door. He clung to the plastic toy still in his hand, his eyes tightly shut.

Micky ran over, picked him up and settled him on his hip. For an eight-year-old, Flynn weighed no more than a couple of stone, his body skin and bones. It wasn’t his fault. It was the condition. Flynn rested his head on Micky’s shoulder, wrapping his arms around his big brother’s neck, still clamping his eyes shut.

“It’s okay, Flynn. Dad’s leaving now.”

Brought up in a relatively small town in Hertfordshire, C F White managed to do what most other residents try to do and fail—leave.

Studying at a West London university, she realised there was a whole city out there waiting to be discovered, so, much like Dick Whittington before her, she never made it back home and still endlessly searches for the streets paved with gold, slowly coming to the realisation they’re mostly paved with chewing gum. And the odd bit of graffiti. And those little circles of yellow spray paint where the council point out the pot holes to someone who is supposedly meant to fix them instead of staring at them vacantly whilst holding a polystyrene cup of watered-down coffee.

She eventually moved West to East along that vast District Line and settled for pie and mash, cockles and winkles and a bit of Knees Up Mother Brown to live in the East End of London; securing a job and creating a life, a home and a family.

Having worked in Higher Education for most of her career, a life-altering experience brought pen back to paper after she’d written stories as a child but never had the confidence to show them to the world. Having embarked on this writing malarkey, C F White cannot stop. So strap in, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride…

Synopsis

A bounty hunter’s partners to lovers’ story.
The hunt is on… and he’s the prey.

Bradford (Ford) King was sure he had the rest of his life mapped out. Though he was no longer a SEAL Lieutenant, his brother was home safe and he had a job that still allowed him to satisfy his hunger for hunting bad guys. Life was simple, no distractions or complications – at age forty-six – that’s all Ford wanted. What he didn’t want was his work partner, sniper/watchman, Dana, giving him s**t all the time.

Dana Cadby had grown up labeled a roughneck from the wrong side of the tracks. He’d fought, scrounged, and survived despite a father that constantly told him he couldn’t. Dana pulled himself up by his own boot straps and made a name for himself in the marksman community. He’d been Duke’s bounty watchman for five years. It was his job to ensure their safety, watch their backs. At thirty-three, he was trusted, well respected by his peers, his bosses, his friends… so why couldn’t he earn the same respect from his partner?

Dana knew he was bisexual before he graduated high school. He also knew he was attracted to the huge, 6’3”, SEAL from the moment he and his brother came to join their team. It wasn’t easy for him to tamp down his immediate reaction to Ford’s thick muscles, full beard, and dark eyes. Still, Dana exhibited nothing but professionalism towards him, not wanting to make his ‘straight’ partner uncomfortable.

After Dana took back his ex-girlfriend, he’d noticed an intensification in Ford’s bad attitude. One that turned aggressive and downright antagonistic, and Dana was damned if he’d just lay down and take it. He was gonna make that man respect him if it was the last thing he did.

When Duke sends Dana and Ford out to track down their most dangerous bounty yet, they both embrace the fact that they make one hell of a team… but they fight tooth and nail against the powerful intimacy brewing between them.
Beware: When Ford and Dana connect, no fugitive can hide from the hunter and his watchman.

This story is a part of a series but can stand alone. It does not end on a cliffhanger and has a HEA.
Disclaimer: This book is about MM romance, albeit there is a very brief MF scene.

I really do love this series and I think Ford and Dana are a fantastic addition! I loved their story, it’s hot and intense, action packed and so much wonderful hot alpha male!

I have to say that I loved these two together, even when they were bickering and barely able to be in the same room together. For me, their chemistry was a tangible thing I felt while reading. The jabs at each other, the almost moments and the feelings that just won’t leave them, I just adored it! They are working to catch a pair of meth dealing brothers who jumped bond and man it’s an exciting ride.

I couldn’t put this book down, I really enjoyed it from start to finish. Ford and Dana are faves for me, like I said I loved them in the beginning but once they figure it out, that they really do love each other, oh that love! Right in the feels! This book, and this series, is full of action, mystery and hot chemistry. I feel like I can always count on A.E. Via to deliver smoldering alpha men who are tough but so freaking loveable. (And don’t even get me started on Brian and how much I just ADORE him!) Another amazing read and fantastic addition the Bounty Hunter series!

Dana

Ford’s hold around his entire upper body kept him from being able to do anything but snarl his frustrated words. “Why, Ford? You’ve been an ass ever since I got back with her.” Dana struggled, getting more pissed off by the second. “Answer me. Why don’t you want me with her?”

“Because you deserve better than that,” Ford said too quietly for the other guys to hear, and let Dana go.

When Dana rose up, he saw Ford’s broad back heading towards the locker rooms. Quick stood with the other guys, a confused expression crossing his face before he turned away, shaking his head in disgust. When Dana walked by, Duke grabbed his arm. “Whatever’s going on between you two, you better fix it, and fast. I need the two of you working together, not against each other.”

“It’s all good,” Dana said with little conviction and headed to the back of the gym.

Dana was coming through the locker room doors just as Ford was coming out with his bag slung over his shoulder. He hadn’t even bothered to change out of his sweaty clothes. Dana frowned, hoping they could talk this shit out. He refused to let Duke pull him off the streets because he and his partner had personal beef. Ford might be okay with that, but he sure wasn’t. Dana grabbed Ford’s bicep when he tried to brush by him. “Hey.”

Ford looked down where Dana’s hand held him. It took a few tense seconds before Ford’s eyes traveled up Dana’s upper body to his face. When they finally locked eyes Dana thought he saw something in Ford’s hard glare, but it was gone before he could process it. “Did you mean what you said?”

“I never say anything I don’t mean.” Ford’s voice was gritty and harsh but his words weren’t. “You deserve better than her.”

Dana couldn’t help staring at Ford’s firm lips and the sexy, dark hair surrounding them. He wasn’t sure when they’d inched in closer, but somehow they were face-to-face. “Did you have someone better in mind, Bradford?”

Ford’s mouth parted a fraction but nothing came out. When it looked like he was about to answer, the locker room door burst open – a maintenance man – breaking whatever link was building between them. Ford pulled his arm away and turned back to the door, never answering Dana’s question. If only they hadn’t been interrupted. Dana growled in annoyance. All he’d needed was ten more seconds to confirm his crazy, but hopeful, suspicion. Did Ford find him attractive? He’d assumed Ford was straight, but he’d also never seen him date anyone, never heard him speak of any hookups. Dana was bisexual, but very few people knew that. It’d been many years since he’d hooked up with a man. Even longer since he’d had a relationship with one.

4 Stars

I really enjoyed this story, it was sweet and touching and I really like the characters. Jaden and Chase were fantastic and gave me the feels and the smiles!

Jaden’s having a rough time, he’s lost his job and his husband and also a grandmother, but he’s gained new half-brothers he didn’t know about so he sets off to Florida to get to know his new family. From the start of his adventure, I was hooked on this story. I loved the description and feeling and totally loved Magneto! Chase is an absolutely adorable and endearing character and right from the start I thought he was perfect for Jaden. While Jaden gets to know his brothers he gets to know Chase as well and the two have a great chemistry and it could be the start of something great.

One of the things I loved most about this story was Jaden’s personal growth. He learns about who really he and who he wants to be and for me that was incredibly touching and made my heart happy. He learns that life isn’t about pleasing other people or becoming who they want you to be, but people loving you for who you are. This book has a great flow, Meg Harding really can tell a great story. It made me laugh and swoon and left me happy!

WOW – I just don’t know where to start, I loved this book and I felt this book! For me, right from the start this book was something so much more than a romance. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good romance (obviously) but this story seemed to carry so much more. Both Eric and Corey are dealing with very real food issues, but from opposite directions. Eric has always been overweight and has struggled with that but with the early passing of his father and his own health scare he is ready to make real changes. Corey is underweight and doesn’t eat, it’s not so much a body image issue as a lifelong nutrition, food issue. These two meet at a nutrition group and decide to be partners in the class and they end up finding so much more in each other.
There is so much vulnerability in this story, from Corey and Eric. These two quickly find themselves opening up to each other like they never have with anyone before and it’s both helpful and shocking to them. One of the things I loved most about these two is how protective they are of each other, they may not see their own self worth but they see value in the other person. It’s not an easy journey for them, they definitely have their struggles but both men do learn to lean on each other, to look to the other for support.
There really wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this story, I adored these characters with their imperfections and their insecurities as well as their beauty. Eric is so sweet and loving and while Corey could be a bit prickly at first, Eric brings out that nurturing loving side of him. It was powerful to watch them work through their food issues and it was beautiful to see them fall in love. This was a such an emotional read got me right in the heart and I know it will stay there! This is one of those times where I don’t think I have all the words to express what this story meant to me but I think Felice Stevens has created something very special with The Shape of You, bringing Eric and Corey together!

I have always been a romantic at heart. I believe that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending around the corner, my characters have to work for it, however. Like life in NYC, nothing comes easy and that includes love.I live in New York City with my husband and two children and hopefully soon a cat of my own. My day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. I practice law but daydream of a time when I can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Is this the makeover of a lifetime?

Ambitious fashionista Perry Goodwood lands the project of his dreams—track down a celebrity family’s missing brother in the Scottish Highlands and bring him back to London for a TV reality show. But first he must transform the rugged loner into a glamorous sophisticate.

Greg Ventura has no use for high fashion. He lives on the isolated island of North Uist to escape the reminder that he’s nowhere near as handsome as his gorgeous brothers and avoid the painful childhood memories of being bullied.

Greg wants nothing to do with city life, and Perry’s never been outside London. When Perry is stranded on North Uist, this conflict seems insurmountable. But Greg is captivated by the vivacious Perry, and Perry by both the island and his host. However, Perry’s one heartfelt wish remains: that ugly duckling Greg fulfill his potential as a swan.

There was something incredibly special about this book for me, I absolutely fell in love with Perry and Greg and their amazing setting in Scotland. I loved the idea of the ugly duckling story and I think Clare London really delivers with this fun, sweet read!

Greg and Perry do not seem like they’d ever be friends, let alone of a love match but their journey together proves they are just perfect for each other! Greg comes from a beautiful family, all of his brothers are gorgeous and famous and in order to land a reality show deal they need Greg to be a part of the family again. Perry is given the task of giving Greg the makeover of a lifetime, but he has to leave posh London and head to Scotland for this job. It’s something neither man really wants and they certainly do not get off to a good start but as they get to know each other, they discover something very special.

I really did adore both of these men, they are both so good and sweet and just loveable – even though Greg doesn’t believe it at all! I did feel for him, he grew up with his jerk brothers calling him names and making him feel less than because he didn’t have their model good looks. He’s carried that with him all of his life, but Perry won’t stand for it and I loved his determination to show Greg how great he really is.

I couldn’t put this book down once I started reading, it was fun and sweet and touching and I think Clare London has done a great job bringing their story full circle. There are fantastic supporting characters in this story that add to this story as well. This story really had it all, it made me smile, it made me swoon and at times it made my heart hurt a little but in the end, I was left so very happy!

Author Bio

Clare London took her pen name from the city where she lives, loves, and writes. A lone, brave female in a frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home, she juggles her writing with her other day job as an accountant.

She’s written in many genres and across many settings, with award-winning novels and short stories published both online and in print. She says she likes variety in her writing while friends say she’s just fickle, but as long as both theories spawn good fiction, she’s happy. Most of her work features male/male romance and drama with a healthy serving of physical passion, as she enjoys both reading and writing about strong, sympathetic, and sexy characters.

Clare currently has several novels sulking at that tricky chapter three stage and plenty of other projects in mind… she just has to find out where she left them in that frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home.

When Brian “Brin” Schubert’s condo floods, he takes his co-worker up on the offer to stay on his crappy futon for a while. The last thing he expects is for his friend’s roommate to be the one guy he despises the most. The same guy who stomped on his heart senior year of high school. And by the looks of the girl on his arm, the same man who’s still deep inside the closet.

Nicholas Dell never predicted that eleven years later, one of his greatest regrets would show up on his doorstep down on his luck. Nick has made some terrible mistakes—story of his life—and he’s been paying for them ever since. And if the guilt and shame aren’t enough, his first crush had to turn into one of the sexiest men he’s ever laid eyes on.

Nick and Brin have weeks to steer clear of each other. Weeks to avoid strangling each other. But when stubbornness leads to skyrocketing sexual tension, hate-sex doesn’t seem like such an awful way to work through their frustration. Except hate is a powerful emotion, especially when it’s turned inward. And in Nick’s case he’s been drowning in a sea of self-loathing for so long, he can’t see his way out.

As Brin reconnects with Nick, his perception of what really happened in their past begins to change. He’s finally ready to forgive him and take a second chance on the one guy who stirs him like no other. But Nick’s demons are complicated, heart-wrenching…demanding. So devastating, he might never allow himself true happiness—even with the one man who’s always owned his heart.

I absolutely loved this book and I can tell you right now that Brin and Nick are going on the favorites list! This book was just everything and got me right in the heart! I’m a huge fan of the enemies-to-lovers trope, I love the passion found in those relationships and Christina Lee nails it 100%!! This story really wasn’t what I expected initially but holy moly I absolutely adored it!

When Brin’s condo floods due to a burst pipe he needs a place to stay for a few weeks while they are making repairs and it’s his best friend and co-worker Elijah who offers up his place. He has a roommate Brin hasn’t met but it’s only a few weeks so it shouldn’t be an issue. But when Brin finally meets the roommate, he’s stunned to see Nick, a guy he knew from high school, the guy he tutored and messed around with and the guy who broke his heart. Nick is just as shocked to see Brin but he hopes he may be able to finally get the chance to apologize. The two try to get along, just for the few weeks Brin is staying there and as they do the walls come down and the truth comes out.

I loved Brin and Nick, absolutely freaking adored them but Nick was not at all what I expected. This poor guy is so very broken, trying to ‘make up for’ a tragic past that he doesn’t believe he deserves to be happy himself. When Brin comes back into his life, everything in his attempt at an orderly world comes crashing down all around him. My heart ached for him and what he was dealing with, the pain that never seemed to leave. Together though, these two are something so special! Brin doesn’t want to let Nick in again, he doesn’t think he can take that heartbreak twice, but the man is already in his heart. As they work through their past and their pain they learn more about each other and finally Nick reveals his pain to Brin, making him finally understand.

This wasn’t the easiest read, it absolutely shattered my heart at times (just get the tissues ready) but it was so very emotional and beautiful. Brin and Nick are such well developed, wonderful characters and their journey together is real and raw. As they come to understand each other and heal the love between these two just melted me. This was a story I felt, not just read, it’s one that went straight to my heart and I know it will stay there. Ms. Lee does an amazing job of bringing these characters to life and filling with so much emotion it is felt off the pages. I adored this book from beginning to end, it’s one of those books that as soon as I finished I wanted to start again just to experience it all one more time.

EXCERPT

“Brin, let me introduce you to my roommate,” Elijah said as I followed him through the short hallway to the living room. “This is Nick and his friend, Sarah.”

Sarah’s curly locks were nearly as blond as mine and Nick’s black hair was mostly tucked beneath a worn blue baseball cap. The two of them were cozy on the couch, Sarah sitting with her legs tucked under her and Nick with his ankle crossed over his knee. They were eating Chinese food off paper plates resting in their laps. Sarah simply waved as her mouth was full from a bite of food but Nick responded, “Hey, how you doing?” after swallowing a piece of what looked like an egg roll.

The smell of fried rice hit my nostrils and when my stomach rumbled in response, I realized just how famished I was. I was dying to dive right into the second brown bag resting on the coffee table that more than likely contained my food, but I didn’t want to be rude.

When Nick leaned forward with an outstretched hand, for some reason I zeroed right in on the neatly groomed scruff on his chin. When he tilted his face to look directly into my eyes, I froze, our fingers interlocked. A startled gasp sprang from my lips, and Nick’s eyebrows slammed together in confusion right before they lifted straight to his hairline.

The same cherry-colored lips, with a center dimple drilled into his chin. Those sad, amber-colored eyes that shuttered out the world.

Holy fuck. Elijah’s roommate was Nicholas Dell.

The same Nicholas Dell from Jefferson High who practically ruined me for other guys.

The same Devil’s third baseman that begged his math tutor to suck his cock in the locker room after practice.

And given the female nestled up beside him, it was the same Nicholas Dell who was still deep in the closet.

A summer fling is an ideal cure for a broken heart. But when it’s with your best friend, things get complicated.

When Adam is dumped by his boyfriend, a week away at a beach resort seems like a great opportunity to get over his ex. Sun, sea, and no-strings sex will be just the boost he needs to move on with his life.

Adam’s best friend, Finn, agrees to accompany him at short notice. Finn’s had a crush on Adam for years, but is determined to put his feelings aside and be the perfect wingman in Adam’s time of crisis.

A spontaneous threesome with another guy forces Adam and Finn to confront their attraction to each other. Having a holiday fling together wasn’t part of the plan, and as their trip heats up, they soon realise that one night of fun won’t be enough for either of them.

The passion might be scorching, but their hearts and friendship are on the line. If their romance is going to survive the flight home, they have to be honest about what they want.

Summer Heat is a fun, lighthearted summer read with low-angst that will leave you with a smile. Jay Northcote delivers a great friends-to-lovers romance with smoking hot chemistry in a beautiful location.
Adam and Finn have been friends for years, and although Finn has always had a crush on Adam, their one chance didn’t go anywhere and they became great friends. Adam got involved with an older guy named Drew and Finn felt like he really lost his chance with Adam. But one night, Adam shows on up Finn’s doorstep with a his stuff and announces that he and Drew split up. Finn is quick to take Adam in and then finds out that Adam has a vacation planned, one that he and Drew were supposed to take together and now Adam invites Finn along. It’s supposed to be a relaxing, fun time, maybe some hookups and getting over the breakup. But one wild night will make Adam and Finn question their feelings for each other, but can it become more than friends.
I loved these two! They are adorable and fun and definitely meant to be! It’s easy to see that these two clearly have feelings for each other, feelings they both have been trying to deny since it didn’t work out the first time. They have a great friendship too, and I liked that both seemed to take that in account when things were turning real on the romantic side. They both go into this thinking it’s a vacation fling, but they both want more. They are sweet and adorable and I loved them. This is a great summer read that totally made my heart happy!
